I think you’re misunderstanding the term “editorial staff”.

It doesn't mean the opinion page, it means the content of the paper, as opposed to the ad sales staff or the website developer or whatever.

The local paper with the best on the ground local reporting just lost half of its reporters.

It’s bad.

luv too grant anonymity to Dem insiders just to say poo poo like this

quote:

A Democratic insider said “in 2018, down is apparently up.”

“Cynthia Nixon is a multi-millionaire actress parading around as a socialist with a self-proclaimed progressive Julia Salazar who was a registered Republican until five minutes ago, and (the Working Families Party) is trying desperately to claim credit for a woman (Ocasio-Cortez) who they not only didn’t endorse, but they can’t even get on their line,” the Dem said. “The one thing they all share in common is that they aren’t fooling anyone.”

salazar has made a point in saying that she was raised by a right-wing mom and seeing how the world wasn't like that shaped her politics. the other line of attack that i saw was that she's not from the neighborhood. she did move to bushwick, but she was kicked out of harlem for organizing her building

edit: fyi, on August 2 the New Kings Democrats are going to vote on endorsements for state AG and in Senate District 18 (Salazar and Dilan). NKD goons, come to the meeting

in case you're wondering about the results of the Daily News layoffs: Ken Lovett (Albany bureau chief) was spared the ax. others weren't so lucky

https://twitter.com/klnynews/status/1021462239704907776

fyi Dareh Gregorian was a politics editor and Erin Durkin was a City Hall correspondent. if anyone has a list of the casualties please post them

not as important in the grand scheme of things but also mind-blowing and something that definitely makes the paper worse: per Yankees announcer Michael Kay, there are now nine people working in the entire sports section, in a metropolitan area that has more than one team in every league. they have nobody covering the Yankees and will be relying on wire services for coverage. it seems so wrong to not have the kind of sports radio-like banter grace the sports section

you don't need to read that article to know that the subway system hasn't improved at all since the state of emergency, all you need to do is experience it on a daily basis. i think i quoted a post by a now-ex MTA worker who said that its main purpose was to overwork people
if de blasio had an ounce of political sense he'd say that he won't pay an additional cent to the MTA until they stop wasting money on vanity projects like a $30 million blue-and-orange paint job in the tunnel, and redirect any money at all to the signals. but somehow it's his fault that he hasn't met with andy byford

Should I just resign myself to taking the bus from PABT to JFK when I'm going down there for my flight in a few weeks? Or maybe a cab? How bad is it?

I mean, you're right near Penn. you can go LIRR to Jamaica and Air Train it there for less.

if time is important, yes. almost every train leaving is going to be 1-4 stops before you hit Jamaica which is the hub for all but one of the lines.

yes. also true and I keep forgetting it's express through Queens. still I'd go LIRR if I'm in a rush and the E can be absolute hell during rush hour.

if you don't see any alerts on the MTA website you're probably fine. if you do then LIRR is an option. if it's both then you cab/uber/lyft.

the subways aren't some rotten hellscape that never ever works. it can be a pain in the rear end at times. you just need to know your options.

i go to the bronx and the mta doesnt give a poo poo about it except as a place for trains to turn around. theres like three 4 train stops they wont skip and the rest are just a gamble on any given day if your train will go to them or if you need to travel in the wrong direction several stops to get a train going your way.

Had to get off at w4th then take the A to 14th. it's more annoying than anything else but the extra time commuting adds up and it's worse every time I visit
