Since the average age is 35 for a game player, I always wonder if at some point games began appealing to adults, or if the kids who grew up playing them just got older and never stopped playing.

It actually owns that the game deliberately forces you to make decisions under pressure with incomplete information. Also the consequences come from these uncertain decisions, not just which side you pick. It's a daring design choice, and more games should do something similar instead of giving you the usual option to deliberate with every party at your own leaisure.

Forcing the player to outright drop a bunch of major plot threads is ballsy but ultimately a bad idea, because the narrative suffers for it like the witcher 3 provides important, meaningful choices in high-pressure situations yet manages to not have two exclusive acts, why would you think that this is necessary?

The thing W2 does that W3 doesn't is that it gives you different perspectives that can color your decisions. W3 generally doesn't do that, which isn't bad, but it's a much less radical approach than W2 had.
