everything I've been reminded of in the last two pages has filled me with an inchoate rage e: god mode might be the absolute platonic ideal of the gamer webcomic, even moreso than CAD e2: the neurotically yours guy is still making new ones to the tune of $1.3k a month on patreon. Makes me wonder if a patreon that's nothing but like "At $5 you're right, the new Ghostbusters move was reverse sexist or whatever the poo poo crazy thing you think" and "At $10 they should take those pants off the new She-Ra immediately" would work.

I remember watching a lot of Foamy when it was a new thing, and then a year or two ago going "I wonder what happened with that thing?" and immediately finding him ranting on YouTube about snowflakes. I like to think I, at least, will be embarrassing my future self with different things throughout the years, instead of the same tired poo poo for over a decade.

BinaryDoubts posted:e: god mode might be the absolute platonic ideal of the gamer webcomic, even moreso than CAD It's not, for two reasons. The first is that it's not about two friends playing games on their sofa, and the second... OK so just thinking about defending GodMode makes my breakfast want to exit through my throat, but for all its flaws it acknowledges women as something more than people you can play games with and gently caress: chainsmoking single mom running a business is more creativity in the character department than all of CAD put together. I mean the acknowledgement is that women are evil and manipulative, so it's not exactly a great leap forward, but at least the women get to exist for their own purposes? Wrestlepig posted:Does anyone know anything about a game called Symbaroum? It's some sort of scandinavian dark fantasy rpg that somebody is starting a game of at a meetup. It's a roll under attribute system, using a d20. Only the player's roll dice, either rolling to act or resist—the enemies stats modify the number you have to roll under. Likewise, players roll for damage and armour, whereas enemies have fixed damage and armour. It's classless, and there a no skills. The main races in the core book are humans (from two different cultures), changelings, goblins and ogres. Characters get extra talents, that are basically d20-style feats, and magic is gained the same way. Spellcasting often requires a roll, and earns you corruption, which is the limiter on how many spells you can cast. Overall, the system is fine, but fairly traditional and D20ish (I think it started as a RuneQuest based system). It is generally more lethal than D20, but there are some real issues around PCs who stack damage reduction becoming invincible. . The setting is cool, but it has the problem that a lot of European RPGs have where they drip feed it through all the books. So there's lots of "mysteries in the core book", that obviously have in-setting answers, that you don't get to know the answer to unless you buy the other books in the line. The books themselves are gorgeous. I just got my hard copy of the new bestiary from the KickStarter, and it is beautiful. I've been playing in the setting, currently using their big adventure path, but we switched to using Shadow of the Demon Lord for rules. It's actually a pretty good fit. Any particular questions?

QC is the one where the author got dogpiled on by tumblr to the point of self-harming for not drawing a character fat enough for their liking, right? (not to be confused with the tumblr Steven Universe fandom dogpiling on an artist for allegedly not drawing a character fat enough in fanart to the point where they attempted suicide)

I once read QC from the beginning all the way through in a few sittings (I think there were "only" about 2000 strips, then) when I was unemployed and would just do that kind of poo poo every once in a while. The evolution of style and humor was profound, but man slice-of-life drama for a literal decade feels like it just goes nowhere. Years later, I heard that the main character has a laudably healthy relationship with a trans girl, but also some ham-fisted racial politics allegories involving annoying robot people? The wacky mascot robot from the beginning was grating. Also the mentally unstable but quirky and secretly wealthy neighbor. Ettin made me dredge up these memories, and for that reason alone he must be stopped.

What are some RPGs with good systems for duels/1v1 combat? I know about Burning Wheel but what else is out there that has specific systems set up in place for it? Personal combat is a thing that happens all the time in pretty much every form of media but most RPGs are built around group combat and running a 1v1 in most systems produces extremely unsatisfying results or leads to a lot of people sitting around and waiting for things to wrap up.

I just posted the beta rules for Duels in Strike! over in the Strike! thread. It's very modular, and you could easily just take the Duel subsystem and drop it into some other game if you like.
