Random crab factoid stuff:

One of the neatest things I ever saw about crabs was a group of scientists/mathematicians who figured out that crabs’ legs work according to a mathematical formula, which is how they are so maneuverable (omni-directional but also hard to take down). They were looking at making mechanized versions, I think, it was on Netflix or something a while back, not finding anything for it now though.

Also, has anyone ever been on a beach boardwalk around mudflats at low tide? I did once or twice in/near Charleston and hundreds/thousands of fiddler crabs moving in unison makes a very impressive and distinct sound.

And Planet Earth 2 has some great crab stuff too, except for the update on Christmas Island. Those invasive ants can go to hell :(

Reminds me of the dude who makes those wind leg sculptures that scuttle along the beach

Well *I* only read the New Yorker and eat Fancy Feast.

Ofc course crabs make the cut for da share z0ne!

In mostly non-crab related news, I found a little toadlet stranded inside the entryway of my apartment complex:

It's been eating up the baby pill-bugs in the crabitat, which I have more than enough of. Eventually, I'm just going to release the toad into the woods near the pond it was born. I know most people think toads are gross or whatever but I just think they are completely :3:

Nope, the toad hops away as soon as a crab gets nears, The crabs aren’t exactly aggressive, anyway. If anything I worry a bit about the crabs because I’ve already seen the toad get real interested in one of them because their little antennas are always wiggling a bit as they “sniff” the air, and was probably thinking it was a worm or something. Either way, the toad isn’t much bigger than a man’s thumbnail, so he can’t really do too much to anything in there, except for the little pillbugs. The tank is right next to my desk, so I keep an eye on them at all times.

I can deal with wasps. It's the bugs that're so loving stupid that they just smack right into your face that I have a lot of contempt for. I'm waaaalkin' heeyah!

yeah, wasps seem fairly intelligent compared to some other bugs. while flies and poo poo will just bump their heads against your window until they die, wasps seem to be able to find their way back out of your home sometimes. like they remember the route they took to get there.

Ticks, however, can all die a fiery death without any detriment to any ecosystem, and I don't care how crab-like they are :black101:
