victrix go get a save editor, open it, and save it again as a different slot (after backing everything up of course), then try to load that. Seemed to work fixing nothing else at all

(e) nevermind but if you crashed after doing some planetary base building, consider disassembling your base and leaving that star system forever. I'm actually serious, I have a planet i discovered called Valhalla that I can ne'er again return to because something about my base quest progress is massively hosed on that file :(

poo poo, Sentinels really don't like it if you try to crack a manufacturing plant.

Just had to run to the hills, I thought. But this planet is so hilly I kept getting slowed down by having to go up and down all the time, and the Sentinels always got close enough to detect again me after a while. After a couple minutes of getting chased through this dumb desert, I finally shook them by boring a tunnel into a mountain, and then continuing to bore underground until I happened to get out with the Sentinels still on the wrong side of the mountain.

Then I ran like hell back to my ship. The Sentinels deactivated just when I got back. :v:

Steeeeriiiiiiiiike twooooooo!

Went back a few pages, but didn't do an exhaustive investigation of the thread. Has anyone else had issues with planets not existing when you try to land on them? They look fine from space, scan and give stats, but it doesn't clear up after going through the atmosphere. If I go far enough the altitude sensor hits zero, then goes positive again, and random textures become transparent like I'm seeing through the planet. It happened once and I didn't give it another thought, but it happened again going to a plot-related mission objective (investigating the source of a transmission accusing me of abandoning people).

I just got this game recently and i'm in my third star system so it is still early days. Is there anything like the visor scanner for your ship? It feels like you pretty much have to land all the time to figure out anything of interest around.
Is there any kind of beacon you can build in order to easily find a specific place again? Planets are so big that if I haven't specifically tagged something then it is incredibly easy to get lost in your ship, and be unable to find your way back.

Maps are LosTech. There are beacons you can build after you do the base building questline a bit, which presumably will persistently mark something. As for scanning in space, not that I'm aware of. Honestly I wish all trade posts were flagged when you scanned a planet, even if it had a reputation gate, because what sort of trade post hides?

Or just blast the door from your ship in a strafing run, maybe accidentally getting the sentinels as well with splash damage from the rockets in the process.

Then you can just wait out the search timer by flying like 300u away and just doing dumb circles in the air while holding down the brake.

Shoot doors like that with your ship. Once the door is down do lazy loops around the base until the sent timer runs out.

Combat is disabled inside buildings as well, so if a sent gets in there it can't fight so they just look at you dumbly and make evasion moves every so often.

Welp, my first serious bug: Landing next to an alien ruin spit me out inside the ruin. Reloading didn't help, as the game auto-saved with me trapped inside the walls like a spooky ghost.

Now I'm sitting right next to the factory again. After manually loading, 30+ minutes of progress lost. Time to annoy some Sentinels again. :suicide:

You can use your teleporter (or the space station's) to go to your friends' portals, but it's a one way trip. You can't use theirs in any way for probably no good reason.

Azhais posted:

They won't, but I did have an issue where I built a base on my friend's planet in their game, went back to my game, the base was still there, I made changes to it (and even uploaded it), then I went back to my friend's game later and the base was back to how it was before I changed. Later I went back to my game again and the base was also reverted in my game.

My advice is to build your own sweet base somewhere else and just have a little house + teleporter near their place. But far enough out of range of their base however becuase if you try and place a base thing down too close to their base, it'll give ownership to the friend and you'll have just wasted a base module.

Interesting bug:

Got to the end of the first system and was offered a quest to get a free antimatter from the guy on the spacestation. Got the antimatter, built the housing, combined them into the warp fuel. everything is fine so far.

The quest is to fuel the hyperdrive, but once I do that instead of progressing to the next quest the game just thinks I lost my free antimatter, and sends me back to the guy in the station who gives me another. And another, and another. I filled my starting ship to 100% warp fuel, and still have the quest to fuel the warp drive. :(

I guess I'll try waiting for a low level ship I can trade for and try again? Reloading doesn't help sadly.

I had the idea of popping into a rando's game and trying to use their blueprint analyzer...it just kept giving me rusted metal which...seemed like a bug. Like I'd use it, get that, no menu or anything else.

victrix posted:

My rewards have all be the same B class life support, it's annoying, although my save bugged out the first few times and removed all my upgrades from the day before so it worked out sorta. The thermal upgrades are both fire and frost, you have to look at their descriptions...although when I bought one and installed it, the one it installed was the opposite one it described, e.g. I bought the extreme heat one and got the frost upgrade. So I bought the one that was a extreme cold prevention one and got the flame protection. I don't even know.

The game has a number of amusing bugs I've been finding, like the cursor turning into a random item as if you picked it up while scrolling through them on the refiner menu, or every once in a while a random menu screen will come up after I select a teleport destination, first time it was the fleet expeditions (I was in a space station), second time it was a multitool offer (it sucked). poo poo's sorta wacky atm.

There's a very limited list of things you can build on your freighter. With what I have unlocked, that list of limited things is:

storage crate (1)
base reclamation terminal (or whatever it is called that lets you recover old base materials)
hallways and freighter rooms
crops

I haven't checked since I got the large reactor blueprint to see if that's an option. Teleporter certainly is not, that's the first thing I tried.

Hot rear end tip to anyone who is desperate for a Blueprint Analyzer! It seems like (maybe?) interacting with someone else’s Analyzer in MP gives you the ability to make one of your own. I spent last night doing base stuff with friends, and this morning it was suddenly included in my Portable Tech menu. Not sure that’s actually why it came back but hey it’s worth a shot. Gotta get those Chairs yknow?

Has anyone found a good way to build Not Horrible bases? I tried to make a tower with two round rooms and a bio-dome on top, but ladders are total poo poo and I basically couldn’t access the second floor.

Really wish we could move built objects around rather than deleting and remaking. Deletion SEEMS to refund the materials but still. It’s an extra step and I just want my deck to be flush with my front door!!

It is baffling that they limit the save game size to ~8MB.
I'm curious how much that'll actually amount to, when it comes to for example changing the terrain around your base. I did see someone earlier in the thread get their mushroom farm covered back up by terrain, after they spent some time flattening terrain.

Maybe it's a holdover from before bases were a thing, and they're still insanely stringent with what they actually bother saving.

Unrelatedly, if anyone is on PC and has a decent GPU, turning on tessellation gives the terrain a nice little quality push.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2018-no-mans-sky-on-pc-has-brilliant-visuals-but-big-performance-issues
Just launch the comparison tool to see the visual difference. Small, but nice.

( Just go into the game's folder in AppData, and flip the Tessellation setting from false to true in a text editor. It'll add a low/med/high/ultra quality setting for terrain in the game's menu.)

It's a nice little thing, taking the ground from completely flat.

It's so strange that Hello Games advertised it as a feature for this patch, added it, added a setting for it, but didn't actually let people turn it on from the game's settings.
