Playing through Crystal Clear and I'm wondering if this game would be great or terrible for speedrunning. On one hand: non-linear, no event flags, you can easily overpower yourself early. On the other hand: "Overpower yourself" means "Go to Mt. Silver and huck pokeballs until something sticks" On the third hand: We'd get to see if you can solo a Pokemon game with an Arbok.

Gen 4 and 7 have perfect starters. Gen 1 too if youre feeling nostalgic. 2s are just accross the board decent. Everyone else is a debate

I think Primarina is probably the best competitively, going by type alone due to Fairy being such a powerhouse type. But in-game, it suffers due to the prevalence of poison types around, and the... comparative lack of dragons to murder. Granted, it can be helpful against Necrozma if you grind it to a high enough level to not get oneshot, and maybe the Totem Kommo-o, but IIRC he has Poison Jab, so uhh, beware. Not sure who the best starter would be for in-game. Design-wise, I think I'm gonna have to go with Decidueye being my favorite, for a number of reasons.
