That's really kind of skeevy to attach virginity for a line designed for really young girls.

Someone should have caught that, I feel like the interviewer should have turned the recorder off at that point and told him "Dude, please rephrase that in a way that's less creepy. Seriously, come on."

Shadow Hog posted:So, little girls told them they wanted it this waaaaaaaaaaayyyy 👏👏👏👏 I have to admit I was thinking the same thing. And given the more everyday life themes it'd be oddly fitting. It's not actually the first time they've had the non-modular figures, either. And there's a few related lines with different topics, with the Elves one that's basically full on high fantasy with dragons and longships and castles and poo poo, and the superhero school line with every superhero's niece/female counterpart/sidekick. So basically they have slice of life, fantasy and sci-fi covered. I got a feeling that, as well as going off the research they did to appeal specifically to what young girls liked and wanted, they also use the lines as an excuse to explore and experiment with different design sensibilities and topics.

Yo, just got back from the Teen Titan movie. Holy smokes, it was great, great music, animation was superb at times and a lot of the jokes landed. Made me miss seeing a 2-D film in theaters.

Or that the Batman-in-Japan one was also good-looking. I liked both of those. They are the top notch in terms of anime CG though so if you don't you're not going to like any of it. Land of the Lustrous (the rocks show) is beautiful though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e1BHW3nv6k&t=1s

it's not a coincidence that almost every single one of those is of characters standing still, from far away, or both because the motion still looks like rear end and it's more obvious when you see characters moving up close

Alright, well I think it looks great. Here's a motion-heavy scene I really like. Strong poses, good bits of subtle motion to the acting, good weight, really good camera movement, appealing timing. You can tell it's not hand drawn but it has all the elements of good animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOrfhH77ynY Anyway show was popular enough that its getting a second season so that's all I care about. I'd say "Land of the Lustrous is the best looking CGI Anime" and "CGI anime inherently looks awful" aren't mutually exclusive statements

Zoids had the titular animal mechs as CGI while the human characters were animated and I felt it worked fairly well, despite being obvious. It gives them a sense of weight and probably makes it a lot easier to have action sequences with the Zoids, even if there's a lot of abuse of stock footage.

The new Voltron does that and it's a fine show. CGI smooth characters, though, is terrible.

It’s from 2013) Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is, in my opinion, an exemplary piece of trad animation for characters and CG for mechanical stuff. I’m re-watching it lately an it’s quite solid if you like space opera.* *they’ve boiled the plot down to 24 or so episodes, which makes it much more engaging and tense. Also they’ve peeled off almost all the usual “Japan” narrative issues and problematic stuff. Only thing left really is that while the men have dashing uniforms literally all the women are in skin tight jumpsuits. You were so close!

does teen titans have robin go "screw batman"

Can someone with more technical knowledge than me explain why CGI anime has weird looking movement? It's almost like characters are moving both too smoothly and too stiffly. Is it analagous to like, 24 vs 48 fps in film? Is it a matter of the craft not matching the technology?

I'm guessing this is what he's talking about (seriously, if you're gonna mention something just say what it is) ‘My Little Pony’ Animator In Prison For Child Porn – Over 60,000 Images Found quote:Tom Wysom, 55, of Ottawa, has been arrested for the possession and distribution of child pornography. When Wysom was arrested, he was found to be in the possession of over 60,000 images deemed to be child pornography, as well as at least 1,625 videos. His IMDB page has him credited as an animator and character builder for 26 episodes of My Little Pony and 23 episodes of Littlest Pet Shop between 2012 an 2015. Wysom pleaded guilty to all charges against him.

technically he wasn't part of the My Little Pony crew per se, but rather a DHX Media animator, with My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop both being shows the studio animates, thus him doing animation for both shows not that that makes things any better

This is just me talking out my rear end because I don’t know for sure, but I believe a lot of anime is done on very small budgets. 2D anime has had to hide their cut corners with stylization for years, but I assume CGI is recent enough that there are less people who know how to stretch it to its limits.
