It was an excellent cover diminished only by the massive poo poo-eating grin Graves was wearing the whole time. Edit: between the loose black blouse and wide-brimmed hat it was probably the only thing he wore that didn’t come from Grandma Graves’s closet Day two: they put Grendel on the smaller indoor stage and some lovely German pirate rock band on the main stage. Now the indoor stage is totally full and there’s more people waiting in line to get in than there are watching the main stage. I am in that line and grumpy that I’m going to miss Grendel, although admittedly it is entirely my own fault. Now I will have to live with missing one of the few bright spots in a mostly underwhelming 2018 lineup. Oh, She Past Away and Lebanon Hanover were really great last night! They put them on the small boat stage, which was the perfect venue for them. She Past Away played a brand-new song for the first time ever, but I can’t tell you the name because they haven’t thought of it yet. Edit: idk the deal with these guys, there’s not even any Grendel merch. Maybe it all sold out already? Post-show edit: my thoughts upon seeing that Nitzer Ebb has been announced for Amphi 2019: gently caress yeah, I’ve never seen Nitzer Ebb live! Someone else’s audible thoughts, spoken loudly: “who’s Nitzer Ebb?” Prop Wash fucked around with this message at 21:56 on Jul 29, 2018 |

Guess they either made up or their other projects didn't pan out! They're really good live. Douglas McCarthy has close to the best stage presence in industrial, IMHO

Speaking of sexual misconduct, the long-standing accusations of serial sexual assault on underage girls by that poo poo from Blood On The Dance Floor, who toured with Angelspit and almost got to tour with Combichrist until people yelled at Andy about exactly this issue, are finally getting publicized.

It's Sara Taylor, being a bit more blunt than previously it looks like, and corroborated by Josh Eustis who apparently saw whatever went down on one of the occasions. One day maybe there will be less creepy guys doing unacceptable poo poo.

Speaking of sexual misconduct, holy gently caress the allegations against William Control https://www.altpress.com/features/william-control-sex-cult-allegations-interview/ They apparently came out a month or so ago, but it's the first I've heard of them. Good Guy Daniel Graves edited out Control's vocals from Rhythm + Control and is now donating 100% of the proceeds to Planned Parenthood.

Are there still people who think racism and sexism in industrial music must be due to an invasion of EDM festie bros?

# ? Aug 9, 2018 23:21 |

You will find lovely people in any community, but any sexist or racist trends I blame on aggrotech and neofolk respectively. Oh, and American counter-culture as a whole pivoting from anarchism and left wing politics to libertarianism and ultimately right wing politics during the 00's.

The early Neofolk guys started off in industrial and punk and came to their politics before they started doing music with acoustic guitars, so that doesn't really make sense. I don't think American counter culture was ever particularly left wing in general, and industrial is so associated with European scenes and bands that that doesn't make much sense as an explanation either.

Maybe I am giving the North-American (mainly Canadian) hacktivist / cyberpunk scenes of the late 90's and early 00's too much credit, but that seemed to be among the last active scenes before Industrial "died". They were overtly political scenes, seeing Industrial music as a suitable soundtrack for the inevitable uprising during the Bush years.

There is a whole lot of extremely unpleasant misogyny in anhalt EBM. I would love to blame aggrotech but tbh any genre of music packed with straight white males and especially ones fetishising aggression like EBM and aggrotech will be hella toxic in places. Basically men are poo poo and I hate that people make money off this by making music that celebrates this. (I also have opinions re the low numbers of women in scene bands and the equally awkward fan obsession around some of the few that there are)

LaPlegua is a total dick, and pretty much a straight up misogynist nazi. It's not like he's was being subtle about it before, but his latest tour was called Make Europe Great Again. Hopefully the Industrial scene will be rid of him now since the alt-right is embracing rockabilly as a genre and LaPlegua has started a rockabilly band called Scandinavian Cock to get on that trend.

I like most of his solo output, with SunnyPsyOp being the one I listen to the least. The new record is SUPER synth heavy and manic. I can dig it. Live, he puts on a solid show if you go in with an open mind and don't expect him to do creepy shadow puppetry while grumbling "ANGER."

I don't know man, I read the fine print on that and am much less enthused. It looks to be Brap and Forth 8, probably because Key wanted to avoid any nastiness in calling it an extension of a Puppy project. The bandcamp descriptions indicate that it's pre-Back and Forth, which I believe was the early first ep/demo release prior to Remission? This release has maybe a handful of bleeb, I think a lot of it is just Key loving around with some synths in his apartment/studio while blazed. Might be fun in the "oh hey, that sounds like the skeletal framework for 'Icebreaker'" sense, but smacks of cash grab. I'd kickstart new bleepity bloop Download/platEAU material in a heartbeat, but this is only minorly interesting in for me.
