Weird question, but it seems like you guys are starting to come up with a database of axles... do you have any good idea what the longest OEM axle that plugs into the standard STI driveline bits (5x114 hubs on one side, 6-speed/R180 on the other) is? Sketching a dumb idea.

I get to move into my rental this weekend.... so instead of living in a spare bedroom and occasionally travelling the 70+kms where the cars are, you will get fresh new lovely Subaru and cat content starting next weekend I will say last weekend I did have my head under a (**CENSORED**), remvoing wiring looms, getting deafened by grinders and hammers, putting out fires by stray welding sparks, critiqued a (**CENSORED**) front end and custom subframes,..... All that said, 10,000kms now done in the Levorg. The service seems to have changed it's crusing fuel economy to be 6.7l/100kms (The gently caress is that possible in a turbo AWD?)and when having fun to holy poo poo how the hell it drink so much when you are on the gas? One oddity I've only really now noticed is that when hammering it, there is no real use in using the accelerator pedal more than 50% - the car pretty much is at full acceleration anyway and there's no more to be had by decking it, the ECU has opened the throttle up fully. I've never really had this much of a disconnect between pedal and throttle body - but at the same time, never really been bothered as it mostly is what you want anyway. Anyway, lovely Subaru content coming and please shoot me if I buy another one, I cant afford to have this many loving projects as it is

I thought I would have more car time being back out by myself. Well gently caress so far I have been wrong about that, finally home after an unexpected work trip. At least the Levorg is an amazing thing to do distance in - 6 hours no stop and under 9 hours door to door with only fuel, pick up house keys and piss stops. 8 hours Sydney to Melbourne? No problem. Annnyway so about cars once again then. Lets say hi to cats first As can be imagined, my pile of spares is.... ummm... large. Fnally got to emptying storage unit. And of course with having a good car, gotta keep it clean.... Might even be real car content tomorrow.

Foooor a pick of the board, what did I do wrong and why was I swearing like a sailor fixing it?

Here's what dropped into my face removing something from something. So the answer to the quiz in the previous post was - I managed to install passenger side hub onto drivers side and visa versa -_- ... that Brembo setup is goddamn heavy. Sure it's going to give the WReckX big rear end brakes meant for a car 300kgs heavier but the increase in unsprung weight is very noticable. I've always been insistent the Brembo setup != track quality and this really is a good reminder that it might say Brembo buuuut it's a long way short of optimal. Really, about the only advantage over WRX four pots is the ability to absorb heat due to physical size - sure, a light car + big brakes is going to give me the ability to hammer the brakes for a good while but I would expect this setup to be heat hosed before a session is over still. A similar sized AP Racing setup is over half the weight just on the caliper alone - which also is far better at dealing with heat and has a better brake feel to boot. Let alone a two piece brake rotor is going to reduce weight even more and have even more heat handling properties which would mean on a GF8 you basically have a huge heat reserve to play with. Yep, loving big. Barely fit under 17" wheels and need a different offset to work. Dont get me wrong, they will be a good improvement over WRX four pots and as a street / occasional supersprint combo, perfectly fine that will handle a car with some more power than stock. What the difference here between this and a proper set of track brakes is say being able to whale on them for 5-6 laps before they begin to wilt vs surviving a full 30 minute session. A set of stock WRX four pot brakes in a GC/GF begin to go bye bye after 3-4 laps depending on power and commitment. Now yes I could say also use a two piece rotor and DS3000 pads on the front to give me a solid 6-7 laps at full tilt annnnd.... there's why I'm just doing a Brembo setup. In reality that's the most I will be doing just at this time and it WILL stop hard.

Also I was bemused a month ago when I finally got back to the WReckX annnd.... What the hell is a condom doing in that car???? I have no idea where that came from. I really need to clean that phone camera. Too much grease on it. FINALLY ready for things to happen on something Fuel tanks are a bitch to remooooooove what the gently caress is hiding behind there??? There's fifty things in this picture that can kill you. Yeah getting up early in this place can be quite something So one of my tasks I wanted to do this weekend is to finally detach the MY95 rear hubs and handbrake cables, then install the cables for the rear Brembos After how many months and they are finally in the parts pile? Oh man that felt good to finally make real progress. Yes it's STI Brembo setup with a R160. From what I could find out, combined with a 4.444 final drive and a 02 JDM gearbox to match was an actual thing. It'll do for now and one of my jobs soon is to swap in the 4.444 JDM gearbox. Rear end is done Nothing special, MY99 WRX steering rack And the fuckup fixed, steering hooked up and everything tightened. Only got to hook up brake lines and ABS wiring and the front is ready to return to the ground Annnnd on a final note - In the middle of a hard 73kms on a gorgeous winter's day CAT INTERCEPTOR fucked around with this message at 11:10 on Jul 23, 2018 |
