I think it's part of the "No shrink-wrapped dinosaurs" movement- worth a google, if only for thicc sauropods- which is the idea that our reconstructions of extinct animals generally rely on wrapping skin around skeletons, and ignoring all the weird soft tissues that real animals actually have. Someone else has done a "reconstruction" of a cat (which I can't seem to find) that's pretty horrifying.
