Favourite Claremontism? "Ah'm nigh-invulnerable when ah'm blastin'!" ranks pretty high for me.

Was "Only my ruby-quartz visor can contain my optic blasts!" Claremont or was that from the Silver Age book?

I think his Wolverine spiel, with the bit about "housings in his wrists" and "adamantium - the strongest metal known!" might be my favourite. I just love the elaboration of it, how Claremont is clearly viewing this as a sci-fi prospect rather than just hyping up a beloved character, because Wolverine isn't beloved yet, and he's using all this syntactically complex language to describe his shtick.

Shakespeare uses it, which is probably from whence Claremont derived it.

Holy poo poo, I had forgotten about Beauty and the Beast - if you want a truly bonkers, bordering on nonsensical story, read that.

I just read X-Men Annual #4 since it's part of the Days of Future Past trade and I just went "umm what?" at the reveal that Nightcrawlers' girlfriend is actually his stepsister in disguise and how happy everyone was finding out at the end of the issue.

Kurt's relationship with Amanda is super odd. As was stated, she's his adopted sister, there's no blood relation there - but it's still really loving weird.

EXTREMELY PISSED AT THE DNC
It’s not a Claremontism thing, but I was introduced to X-Men via the 90s cartoon.

So when Jean Grey died in front of Cyclops during the Dark Phoenix Saga and they each screamed to the other in huge bold letters:

SCOTT!

JEAN!

I burst into laughter.

After a Speaker vote, you may be entitled to a valuable coupon or voucher!

The Claremontism I remember most clearly, circling overhead like a great predatory bird, was "a body" used as a third-person expression. This is one thing when it's about milk but it was about sex thirst and... actually mostly sex thirst, but then again, Claremont.

My favorite Claremontism is running through each of the X-men’s powers, and then:

“Rogue? Her powers speak for themselves.”

... when, no, that’s pretty much the opposite of reality for Rogue.

TFW you look into the backstory of a character you'd never heard of in All New Wolverine and realise you actually saw their first appearance some 25 years ago and just figured that person was an innocent bystander one-and-done. Like what in the holy gently caress, you're telling me the banker lady the X-Men saved from the Reavers became the ruling crime lord of Madripoor?!?!?!?!?

Yeah. I always found Madripoor stuff kinda dull so I'd usually avoid/glaze over stories about it. I was just looking up what happened to the Reavers and noticed that lady in their first appearance had her own entry. Little did I know...

And ya, Madripoor was never something I've been into either. Like its fine for a story here and there, but sometimes stories spend way too much time there, and its like eh, move it along guys.

How's the story going in Astonishing? I refuse to support Land so I'm off the book.

So far it's pretty fun, Rosenberg has a really strong sense of his character voices even if they're not exact matches to the way some of them have sounded previously. Personally I'm won over by it because he just so clearly knows what he wants his cast to be and it's a real delight. Dead Souls hasn't really worked for me but Astonishing and Multiple Man are really clicking. I really hope that he and Kelly Thompson are the future of the line.

Land's art is... adequately inoffensive, I guess? Like, it's still bad but it's unremarkable.

Dawgstar

Land seems to be slowly moving away from the 'haha here is pornstar and Kurt Angle and I can't draw people actually looking at each other' phase.

Yeah, now he's just really lovely at composing scenes because the muscles have all atrophied. He's definitely improved from his nadir, but I don't know if he'll ever have the fundamental drafting/composition skills to be anything other than ok.

Android Blues

I think Astonishing has improved from the pretty abysmal second arc, but I'm also not really on board for the direction it's taking. Having Dazzler lampshade the team being a sausage fest kind of just made me roll my eyes rather than ameliorating it.

How do you do, fellow Regis?
I have an X-Men question that I've been unable to find an answer for online and I was hoping someone in the thread could help me out.

In House of M, they made a big deal about how Charles Xavier's grave was empty, but it was later revealed in the House of M: Civil War series that he was killed by Bucky Barnes years earlier.

Was there any sort of pay-off to the revelation that Xavier's grave was empty in the House of M reality or was it never resolved?

Note to self: This one's the good one

So someone's gonna have to explain to me what the ending of Adamantium Agenda is all about, because the reveal that Laura is apparently... not a clone(???) is confusing me.

On one hand it seems like there's no new information in the way it's explained, but it's presented like a shocking reveal and I don't get the hairs they seem to be splitting on that one.

Also the other detail at the end that there's an X-Man who's only posing as one through genetic engineering is pretty :what: too.

Yeah, it's really hard to summon forth any reaction more than an "huh. Kay..." It doesn't really add anything, it explicitly contradicts a currently running storyline in an ongoing, and better, book and the "twists" are pretty well-tread ground for X-books. It's a strange combination of anticlimactic, pointless, and entirely par for the course.
