Ah yes, instead of dealing with your rage in a constructive manner, what if you just bought a mass produced hunk of plastic garbage and intentionally chuck it into the ocean? That's bound to make the world a better place.

Why is it that so many of the regular folk in the u.s. resist socialism so much? It's very easy to point to eastern europe and the soviet union completely collapsing and having a demographic crisis worse than what happened to them during world war 2. Whereas western europe and the united states are so obscenely rich compared to the rest of the globe. How do we convince these people(westerners) to adopt the principles that lost eastern europe and russia the cold war.

These people also barely escaped the police (creatures people on the left think are horrible) for their neoliberal freedom. How do we convince ordinary people that they aren't going to try to escape a country that is going to shoot them dead if they betray leftist ideals.

Moridin920 posted:Last I checked the "Broken Windows" theory is bullshit anyway. Yeah, the theory looks at the problem backwards. Like, the crime of someone breaking a window happens, no response, so worse crimes happen there. Ergo, up police presence and arrest any one looking "out of place". Since this mostly happens in poor (and thus mostly minority communities) you end up with a tool to cudgel those communities. But it doesn't really ask "why weren't those windows fixed in the first place?" Recently I saw this site (http://www.vacantnewyork.com/) that talks about how even in wealthy neighborhoods in New York, a lot of storefronts are just sitting empty. Because who ever owns those properties is essentially waiting for a high roller, low risk tenant i.e Starbucks or Target. When I walk down the street to get home in my rapidly gentrifying neighborhood, I usually walk pass 3 or 4 empty store fronts to get home. And these store fronts have been sitting empty for 6+ months. In a city which is currently undergoing a construction boom. Which got me thinking, the real problem is not "crimes are happening and no cops are there to stop them" but rather "there is a space or piece of the community that is not being used or cared for by people in the community." Like, most people aren't gonna throw a rock at an occupied building. But if that house or storefront has been sitting empty for months, then clearly no one in the community owns it or is invested in it, which ultimately means the community suffers so that someone's spreadsheets look good. Broken windows aren't a crime, they're an expression of frustration at an uncaring capitalist system that is exploiting a community to its own benefit.
