Her issues page is vague and leads with “affordable healthcare” but surprisingly she is running in favor of public schools so that’s a thing I guess. She’s being supported by Perrielo or however you spell his name which is moderately lol-worthy to me.

Is VA7 northern Virginia because if so what better person to represent the military contractors than a CIA operative?

It's Cantor's old district, central VA

BOOP

The incumbent in that district is the guy that unseated Eric Cantor and votes with Trump like 90% of the time. If I lived in that district I'd probably take a breath, hold my nose, and vote for that tea party chud. I'll probably catch poo poo for it but holy gently caress I can't think of a worse plausible scenario than the Republican party completing its journey to open white nationalism while Democrats become a party of spooks and cops.

I mean honestly in my experience it’s like 50/50 on whether or not a Dem will even mention schools in anything other than the vaguest terms, but I’m more so surprised that the CIA lady is in favor of it.

Not only that but got really lovely and sanctimonious about it. Like everyone that thought knew there was a difference, especially since Obama needed to parachute in at the 11th hour and make sure his guy got in at any cost for some reason, was just too dumb to understand how they were absolutely the same. This was also from the people that just spent a year screaming "post the map!!" and had zero earned credibility.

Also I'm really liking how the New York Times thinks a congressional candidate needs to debate some idiot just because he offered a donation that he legally isn't allowed to give.

They obviously didn't even believe it themselves since the natural response "if yall think they're the same then why not agree to Keith" was of course not accepted.

"Are you crazy?" "What nominate a terrorist?" "Well you need to learn to compromise by agreeing to everything we want" "To teach you a lesson about questioning the Party" etc

Wages are (very slowly) going up, but yeah, the tax cut had nothing to do with it; almost universally it went to paying out people that already have lots of money.

The fine print says the wages are for "production workers and non supervisory employees". So, maybe supervisors are earning more?

I'd look up the CAP logo on there and see what you can find.

I think it's actually good to omit managers, since at the end of the day they're (mostly) not the people who matter, and their comparatively good fortune obfuscates what's really going on.

The contemporary (like past 20-30 years) American economy is one where the top 10-20% does okay, and including them can paint an overly optimistic picture of the situation of the typical American worker.

edit: I mean, to be nitpicky obviously not all managerial staff are well-off (and vice-versa for non-managerial staff not being well-off), but it's a decent proxy. I think it would be better if they just directly looked at how, say, the bottom 50% of workers were affected.

Just for what it's worth, this is extremely common when talking about wages and wage growth. You should actually be suspicious if you're looking at data that doesn't specifically indicate that it's for production/non-supervisory employees because it's almost certain that someone is trying to paint a rosier picture of the labor market than what exists in reality.

To be fair probably the worst Russian stuff so far has been Russian funding of the NRA, because the NRA is nest of poo poo stirring racist terrorists who have been using said funding to sow racial discord as much as possible. Arguably worse than anything that went on during the 2016 election, and at least tangentially related to Charlottesville. Not that it takes much pushing to incite racist violence in America.

Russia is not the mastermind behind the NRA and even with their shady contributions the vast majority of NRA funding is entirely domestic. But I'm sure that if it were just free from the dastardly muscovite all those gunfuckers would just poof out of existence after the dread russian magics conjuring them from the ether run out.

I am frequently amused, in a horrified "Well we're totally hosed" way, how so much attention is put on the Russian actions and so very few people want to deal with the problems they exploited. Putin isn't some kind of galaxy brain mastermind backed by infinite resources lurking around every corner destroying "democracy". He's the autocratic head of a kleptocracy who knows how international power plays work, not a malevolent trickster god. The problems in America didn't spring forth fully formed from his forehead ready to destroy the country. This poo poo is 100% home-grown, he's just stirring the pot we've been brewing for decades.
