Apparently the big deal is that people believe she only got the job because she's the only out lesbian in Hollywood? No, not always. It's something specifically added in the DC Rebirth Detective Comics run, so it was only true from 2016 onwards. Before that point, Kate's family had never been connected to Bruce's.   (And ok the Ruby Rose resemblance is pretty strong here isn't it?) It's a good retcon that made a lot of sense (Martha Wayne's maiden name had been revealed as Martha Kane for years at the time), but it's still a retcon. Also poc LGBT were upset because a lot of articles highlighting the casting were calling her the first out cw hero which obviously isn't true because Black Lightning. It falls back to the narrative that a white person (or in this case company/TV show) do something that black people have already done and get commended X10 or often complete credit all together. Jewish folks were also upset because Kate is Jewish and they're worried about erasure. Although they're so open about Felicity's judiasm so I really doubt they'd wash that out but 🤷🏾♀️ Maybe Ruby can hook up with Candice Patton who I'm sure can give her advice. I guess people were telling her to bleach her skin again which is just.. ugh
