They were apparently originally a slave warrior race for a different alien race, who rose up against them and wiped out their masters and took their technology. Their culture and the genetic engineering is basically what happens when you give a Bronze Age culture space age technology, as they turn men into 'heroes' (mostly good at yelling and leaping) and try to make their wives less naggy. (Ringworld Kzinti never had this change and their females are fully sentient, iirc)

They already use that origin for Klingons in Star Trek.

I was going to bring that up but forgot halfway through. It's not an uncommon origin for sci-fi civilisations who seem way less culturally developed culturally than their technology would imply. (Including humans, in some works)

They somehow managed an uprisising that made them the quadrant's MS-13 Cripbloods, but could barely keep their ships working or someshit.

TAS is pretty good. And DS9 mentioned the Kzinti too. I think there was an episode where a Founder reprograms the Defiant to attack a Kzinti outpost in the hopes they'll get to go to war with the Federation, so they're canon.

That was the Tzenkathi.

Not quite. The thing with the Klingons is that the Hur'q showed up over Qo'noS and went Independence Day on them. The Klingons fought the Hur'q off, and used salvaged and captured Hur'q technology to drastically accelerate their technological progress. This is also what forged the Klingons into a single empire rather than a bunch of bickering kingdoms and empires.

I think it's kind of implied that they still have a quasi-feudal political system because they got future tech at a medieval tech level.

It's outright-confirmed in DS9. Martok was a commoner who got a battlefield commission to Officer status.

More than just implied, but the hur'q invasion is what got all the little kingdoms and empires and duchies on Qo'noS to unite as a single Klingon Empire under one banner.

I thought that Kahless did that long before the invasion, but I maybe thinking of the non-canon novels.

I thought the Hur'q invasion was centuries after Kahless and they stole his sword and placed it in a museum because of the cultural significance of it.

yes this is a common video game thing, especially for mmo's based on pre-existing properties. they are basically designed to be self-insert mary sue simulators as part of the fantasy

I think they changed the way the game works from the first time I tried it. I remember the intro having something to do with a time travel thing to TOS, but when I replayed recently it was a field promotion because the borg kill most of the bridge crew or something.

The rest is like you're super cool side character. You don't really have some cosmic destiny or whatever (unless you're Mirai Paris), but you get to tag along with all the cool name guy's adventures.

I bet pon farr could be avoided entirely if they just cranked one out once in a while to keep their hormones from spiking. Their dumb religion probably considers jerking off twice a week and an unquenchable murder-or-gently caress frenzy every seven years to be equal transgressions, though.

Hey, look. Look, if- if you screw me on this, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine, you rat bastard!
That's the real reason the Vulcans want reunification with the Romulans. The Romulans carry the gene to keep them from going nuts and needing a mating cycle.

But it could end up backfiring, we could accidently create Romulans who need Pon Farr, too.
