Some other guy replied to that "Go gently caress yourself or I will kill you.". This got me to check out Madonna's Die Another Die song, and then I got lost in just watching a bunch of dope Madonna videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYwgG2oyUbA

I also have no idea why Skyfall wasn't the finale of this series because honestly what can you even do with the character after that. There's nothing left to be said.

I had a period of my life where I was obsessed with the Bond movies. I'm still not sure why, other than that I got given a bunch of VHS tapes from my grandfather. I have seen nearly every Bond film, except never the entirety of The Living Daylights. Honestly, based on Spectre, if Bond just stops, I'll be okay with that. Spectre was bad in a way different from pretty much any other bad Bond movie, in a profound "this series has no justification for further existence beyond money". It's not fun bad. Let's state the honest truth: Bond doesn't deserve Idris Elba. He's too good for the role.

I certainly have not seen every Bond movie and I don't really want to but I thought Spectre was okay and really liked all Christoph Waltz's fever-dream scenes in it. I also think it's kinda ridiculous they're bringing Craig back but sure; Google tells me Moore was the longest-serving Bond with 12 years in the role and from 2006 to 2020 is 14 years so that's actually only two years topping the longest-serving Bond. Literally the longest a person has served in an action role is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine from 2000-2017'; only Sean Connery technically beats him by having come back in Harime Nui fucked around with this message at 07:57 on Aug 13, 2018 |

a pet peeve i didn't know I had until now: people citing polls about how divided America is that talk about how both Democrats and Republicans think that the other is "dangerous" for America or that they're "scared" of the other side. The implication, of course, is that we just need to calm down and treat the other side with respect and as if they have good intentions, but I think one side actively pushing racial resentment and violent policy and anti-immigrant sentiment makes them legitimately dangerous, and saying that people need to calm down and treat them as equal is loving garbage (i just watched Stephen Colbert's election night closing speech for the first time since election night and it was definitely a man who is still clinging to the hope that Donald Trump would not completely ruin poo poo, and that civility would be victorious and everyone could come together after the election. He's been pretty good since then, but citing those polls always inflames me because only one side is fighting against the people who would force me to pay thousands of dollars to not die a long, slow, painful death by mental degradation)

DC Murderverse posted:realistically if James Bond was going to be a minority i think it should be someone of Indian descent, given the relationship between India and Britain. See, this is why I actually liked the idea of that Bond Cinematic Universe (despite the fact that they would have severely hosed it up had they gone that route). If we had an Indian James Bond then it might add some interesting flavor to Bond, but they'd still be more interested in telling a Bond story than an Indian story. But if we had another MI6 agent where the story could focus on the legacy of British oppression in India I think that could be something very interesting indeed. e: But also, Bond would now work much better as a period piece than a modern day hero/anti-hero. The idea of a government-controlled superspy in today's world is both silly and politically uncomfortable. It's why he has to go rogue in every movie, or expose corruption in the government at the very least. Set him during the Cold War and you can start having fun with him again while still maintaining a geopolitical seriousness. But the distance that time gives us would be very valuable to that series. Bourne had to be explicitly a lone-wolf, anti-government story for it to work. But pretty much all of our other really good spy films from John le Carre adaptations to OSS 117 to Man from UNCLE to Austin Powers are all stuck in the 60-80s because that was when spy stories made sense in a much more black-and-white (seeming) world. I would love for Bond to be able to play in that sandbox again. feedmyleg fucked around with this message at 12:33 on Aug 13, 2018 |

Just remake Casino Royale (the 1967 version) with every Bond having a different ethnicity. FreudianSlippers posted:Tom Cruise is older in Fallout than Brando was in the Godfather.
