Exocraft need another design pass in light of changes since Foundation imo, there are virtually no circumstances where I'm going to bother to build an exocraft bay instead of just flying my ship around or chain-charging my hazard shields.

They should just be summonable, or require a cheaper/portable thing to spawn.

They need a lot of changes to be worth using, imo. Faster base speed, able to be summoned (make it a freighter tech, even), mining should be faster (why is my handheld multi tool 50 times better than the big vehicle mounted one??) at the very minimum.

Less necessary but good ideas:
Multiple seats for multiplayer
Make the Colussus a mobile base or something, give it a point besides being another storage locker. Maybe it projects an environmental shield around it? a built in refinery?

1.56 is out for ps4.

https://gearnuke.com/no-mans-sky-update-version-1-56-patch-notes/

**

Fixed an animation issue.
Added the base archive quest for old saves.
Fixed an issue that prevented pre-NEXT saves from accessing the Base Computer Archive missions.
Addressed an issue where some non-existent base parts were showing in the Guide.
Addressed a bug that made melee boost jumping overly hard to do. Texture quality and streaming improved.
Made further adjustments to the farming timers.
Added fixes for crashing issues.
Added fixes for stuttering and lag issues.
Various performance and stability improvements.

I knew there was something wrong with the melee boost! It felt different since 1.55.

The melee boost often became impossible to do if frame rate got too low (like when you have a galactic commission job active for longer than five minutes) so I'm glad they addressed both of these.

If you wanted insane bursts of income early on, I would invest in warping to as many systems as possible, collecting as many quests as you can, and doing them all, while scanning everything you can along the way (assuming you managed to grab S class scanner mods.) Combining that with treasure hunting and you can make much more than 1 million in 2 hours. Several times more if you have all three scanner upgrades.

You can also farm whispering eggs around abandoned buildings. I made 4 million this way. Although I used cheesy tactics like building a wall around the eggs and harvested them while the monsters hissed helplessly outside my flimsy wooden walls

Just stand on the eggs, no need to build a wall.

I'm only missing like two recipes in the crafting chain (thermic condensate and magno gold, I think). Once I have them I can basically create a factory / farm base and generate infinite money by churning out stasis units. It takes a while but eventually you go from selling the crap you zap out of rocks to being a Space Billionaire.

The most important thing is to always be raiding manufacturing facilities for recipes while you work on your intermediate money making schemes. Then once you have enough recipes to make the highest end stuff mostly on your own, switch over to doing that.

Players not joining your game should not be able to interact with your base in anyway, and those players would only see uploaded bases. I have no idea what the limitations are for players who actually join your game, but you can just turn that off if you are worried.

Are there any tips for finding all creatures on a planet? Like I get avoid overgrown planets and whatnot, but anything other than that? I usually get to a point where I'm missing one creature and can never find it. I've been checking for water creatures. Are there cave/underground only creatures? I'm still missing 2 creatures on my home planet that I've spent hours on.

Don't expect much.
After seeing the refinery recipes posted earlier in this thread (oh my!), I experimented with a couple in a large refiner, including quadrupling copper with chromatic metal, and doubling chromatic metal yield with pure ferrite. Note these are both 2 ingredient recipes that could also be done in a medium refinery. There was, as always seems to be the case with NMS, an oddity: a variable cap on how many operations the refinery would do before needing to clear the output and start it again. The intuitive way this mechanic would go is for the refinery’s output slot to get to as close to maximum capacity as possible before halting, e.g. making 250 of something and then stopping. In my experience, it was making 10-40 of something before needing to be cleared before it would proceed again. Can anyone corroborate this or is it just me? PS4, 1.56 btw

If you build one of storage container X, it’ll have the same contents as every other storage container X at your other bases. I don’t think you can use the teleport inventory command without being in proximity to a storage container.

Answered this myself tonight, in case anyone's curious. They appear to give daily recurring quests.
Overseer - Take a photo of X environment. Gives you a relic to sell (first one I got was for 900k)
Scientist - Wants planet discovery data. You get nanites for it. (had 1.7k built up :eyepop:)
Weapons - Offer a new Multi-tool. My first offer was an S-rank 24 slot (but mainly full of broken poo poo) rifle which would be cool to aim for earlier on.
Exocraft - Points you to a nearby facility for a timed run. You get credits out of it.
Farmer - Asks you for more of X plant. You get relics out of it as well it seems.

Not sure when they reset but I think it's at the end of the day.

There are a couple of things, but they are not sure-fire solutions.

1) Leave the planet, land elsewhere in the system, save and quit game, restart game, come back to planet. Sometimes resetting the game state will tilt the odds back into your favor, but this is more confirmation bias than anything. It is unknown at this point if the game has trouble spawning creatures based on what has already spawned. Usually the half step of this is to take off, enter orbit, pulse a short distance, and land again.

2) Planets with large ocean bodies typically have 3 fish species. 2 schooling fish and 1 big solo predator. AFAIK and seen, no critters spawn in underwater cave systems.

3) There are bugs. Like literal bug species. They are tiny, quickly flutter away, and can sometimes be cast aside a "oh, the game is just broken/loving with me". If you find a few red dots that have no visible models, and you're sure they're not distant Quad Dogs, zoom in to max, and VERY slowly creep up on a dot once you're within (I guess you could call) spitting distance.

4) There are species that live in Cave biomes, but subterranean cave tunnels do not reliably have surfaces animals like to spawn on. The best bet is to find bases that carve out openings to caves in such a way that the flat-ish ground nearby the entrance is Cave biome. Then stand OUTSIDE the base radius within sight of the entrance, and wait for creature spawns. If critters spawn but not on the cave biome floor surface after 3 tries, chances are there are no cave critters. However, I have had critters spawn deep in caves.

5) Some critters like the packed patches of flora, not just the open plains. And some critters have spawned on lakesides and beaches. Mountainous planets can have trouble spawning larger 4-legged critters. Try to avoid places with rapid elevation changes.

6) Essentially, there are "spawning points" on a planet. The Fauna Level determines how often a spawn point is generated as you traverse the planet on foot. A planet with few species but "higher" density will cycle through those species more often, but a planet with high species count by lower density will result in lower variety at spawns. The "common/uncommon/rare" seems to affect this sometimes, but many "missing" species are due to spawning RNG, not so much the critter's rarity modifier.

Edit:
7) One of the go-to's for this kinda question is "Oh did you look up lol" as if to say you never looked at the sky for birds. I think flying critters are spawned with different rules. Chances are within 4k of walking around and one full day/night cycle, all flying critters should have spawned at some point. However, the butterfly swarm species seems to be spawned via ground critter rules.

When you set the galaxy map to free explore you can jump as far as your range lets you (though looking for somewhere 2000 LY away is incredibly tedious). When following the path to the center it seems to only calculate a few hundred LY at a time so if that's all you want to do you can get by with just two S rank upgrades.

For hunting animals, try aiming for moons. I have never found a moon with large bodies of water, so no fish to hunt. And monsters that are usually cave types, like the little crab things, tend to spawn on the surface.
