One theory is once we started walking upright our junk was prominently on display at all times unlike other apes, so it was easy for  to start selecting for it.

I sometimes work on fish that do a ton of sperm competition, and the ones that are obligate competitors have testes that are around 10-15% of their entire body mass. The human equivalent would be to have approximately bowling ball sized nuts.

Chess talk: I can kinda see why Luigi and Bowser would be queens instead of kings. The queen is the most powerful and aggressive piece on the board, while the king is a piece you want to shelter and protect until the endgame. Bowser Jr. being behind the lines while Bowser goes to town makes a lot of sense. Having Mario hide behind everyone else for most of the game is somewhat strange, but I think it's that or having Mario as the queen. The makers of this chess set probably thought it wouldn't fit his character. The thing about the king and the queen is that they're the only pieces you have only one of, so you have to distribute those 4 positions to the central unique characters of the series. If you made Luigi the rook or something, that'd mean there's two Luigis on the board, and that's straight up insanity! However, why did they have Goombas be the rooks, the second most powerful piece? I can't have that. The Thwomp is the obvious choice for a rook, and Goombas should be pawns! And they have coins as the pawns on the mushroom kingdom side!? What the poo poo, those are inanimate objects you nincompoops! Toads are what you put in there, toads are the embodiment of worthlessness. But instead you idiots have them be the rooks? gently caress!! It's almost like they didn't think this one through. I'd rate this chess set 2/5, if offered a game I'd play it, but I'd probably go with some hyper aggressive gambit to make it a shorter game.
