Gonna start logging stand up specials, wrestling pay per views, and Black Mirror episodes. My favorite thing about Letterboxd is the way different people can use it in completely different ways, and it’s all good.

Black Mirror episodes are on letterboxd? That's beyond the line for me...but I guess they are basically short films

I know that rule is just self-imposed. I was mocking harshness since the poster was saying shorts would "bloat" their numbers. No problem with people using the site how they want. Except logging and "reviewing" movies that haven't come out yet like they're comment sections. That's the devil. Teenage Fansub fucked around with this message at 02:14 on Aug 14, 2018 |

Egbert Souse posted:While it's split in Letterboxd, I consider it one work like other serials. Each episode has its own entry, but there's also a separate single entry for the whole thing. As for shorts, there are a few reasons why NOT logging them doesn't sit well with me. First, every film made before 1915 is technically a "short", and there's no way I'm not keeping track of those. Second, some of the best films ever are shorts, including a good handful in the TSPDT list. Off the top of my head: La Jetee, Outer Space, Meshes of the Afternoon, Land Without Bread, and Scorpio Rising. Third, films are films. I've seen brilliant 12 minute films and I've seen 3 hour garbage heaps, so there's nothing inherently "better" about feature films that somehow make them more impressive for having seen.

Incidentally, what does Letterboxd's filter consider to be a short film? Anything below 40 minutes?

Samuel Clemens posted:Does Les Vampires count as one feature film or ten shorts? Or five shorts and five features given that half the episodes are over 40 minutes in length? I go by gut feeling, and every time I've ran into this on the TSPDT list (Les Vampires, Dekalog, Dog Star Man, Olympia) it's only felt correct to log it as one entity. Also by gut - never log tv shows, never log standup specials, and always log shorts, even the one with the butt guy that played before Ingrid Goes West.

Log standup specials and TV shows IMO. Also short films.

I don't log standup, (most) TV shows, or your run-of-the-mill non "art" documentary. Log anime OVAs tho

Stand-up is performance art with set designs, art direction, and now skits and music videos. So I log them too. I log everything.

If it's on there and I've watched it I log it. It's all about clicking through on these films/cast/crew/viewers and going down a rabbit hole of lists. There are a few people I follow that mostly watch weird rare shorts

Don't log porn.

Does the Letterboxd phone app seem kinda crappy to anyone else? A lot of the time when I search for a movie, it just hangs and doesn't seem to do anything. I end up having to close it and reopen it a few hundred times.

Their servers (or whatever) go down on the website all the time, so the app probably goes along with that.
