Isn't it kind of sexist to assume that the ones in power doing the halal dick sucking are men? Sucking dick isn't necessarily a purely homosexual act and I'm sure there are a depressing number of female politicians in Denmark who are whole heartedly on board with the Saudi rear end kissing. e: Beaten to the dick sucking punch.

Jesus loving Christ, that is not a point on which you should double down. What the hell? I'm very sorry for your experiences in Denmark, Rust. My entire social circle is basically young academics, and we're all extremely disillusioned with our current government and whatever the hell the social democrats think they're doing. We've attended several rallies against the legislation being passed by the current government, but I have no idea how to effect real change.

Fellatio is not an inherently homosexual act performed exclusively by men. I also called them swine, I'm amazed you didn't pick up on that bit of blatant Islamophobia. I could've probably gone with a female example if Saudi Arabia had any women in power anywhere, unfortunately my government is helping to keep it that way. I'll be sure to include a prominent trigger warning the next time I employ a sexually explicit turn of phrase. Edit: I am in no way intending to fatshame Løkke or any other member of the government by comparing them to pigs, nor do I habour any ill will toward our delicious porcine friends. Discussions with multiple colleagues, young and old, who have lived in Denmark and elsewhere, lead me to think there is a basis for saying that Danish society accepts a higher degree of open sexism and homophobia than I experienced in Canada (and the US). When I mention this, I am told 'oh thats because Danes are less hung up on the PC culture you come from'". *Nobody* has ever said to me that I was wrong in the last year when I've brought it up. Feel free to do so. I do not go from the general to the specific - the observation that Danish culture is X or Y does not mean any particular Dane agrees with X or Y. I know many who don't like it, but they're younger.

I've recently had a friend get called a feminazi by a DF member for suggesting that Denmark doesn't have perfect gender equality. It's a thing that's happening, and the people doing it are currently running the country. The supposed major leftist party has gone full nativist and they still stand to be the head of our next government. If that isn't indicative of Denmark as a whole letting the mask slip, I don't know what is.

I've become completely disillusioned with Danish politics ever since SD won in 2011. They took every despicable action the previous government did, and bloody double downed on them. It's hard to prove you're a good person politically, when every single party is either blatantly corrupt, evil or moronic.

THE BAR posted:Maybe I'm just blind to all of this since I live here, but there are monsters in every country, yes. I was 'uh, whaaaaat?'. At lunch in the cafeteria, someone referred to a TV presenter who is openly gay as 'that human being' offhandedly - nobody even blinked. The fact that in my department of 60+ people there is exactly one junior female IT architect, and she recently hired *after* I spoke to our SVP about how there were *zero*, on International Women's Day, of all days. During onboarding, where I was one of the older people present, I made a point of talking to some of the younger hires, many of whom were Danes who had done some school in the USA, how they compared Danish workplace culture to others they knew, and they gave mixed responses - some said it was about the same, others said Denmark was more sexist in the workplace - none said Denmark was *less* sexist. As someone who grew up imagining the Nordics as socialist paradises in the news, I was really, truly shocked. The blatant race-baiting in politics is a part of this to me, I'd never expected. I'm also not talking to 20-somethings regularly, it's quite possible the younger people have more awareness. I can say their English is far better - many of my 50 year old colleagues have difficulty but a 25 year old graduate will probably be near-native fluency. I apologize for offending anyone who disagrees, it's just every time a new law punishing immigrants comes out, my feelings about Denmark drop another small notch. I came here with plans to stay, learn Danish, work towards citizenship, the whole thing... and I keep hearing things like this that make me less and less hopeful and excited about the whole project. Back to discussions of the next law from DF.

You called the Danish government (and SD) a bunch of dick suckers *as an insult*. I pointed out it's just a variation of the 'but a human being is just a bunch of sticks' defense, where you try to frantically deny you meant it as an insult, which defies any plain reading. Either you can't read, or are merely still trying to backpedal - in any event, falling back to a rather idiotic 'waahhh decorum' remark instead of addressing the homophobia *inherent* in the insult. Seriously, it's like calling someone a oval office as an insult and denying it's a sexist insult objectifying and demeaning to women. You clearly have never been called out on using homophobic remarks as insults before, I guess. Maybe you could learn from it instead of transparently denying responsibility for your choice of words? It's part of growing up.

Since when has the accusation of sucking dick been implying that someone is gay? I've always thought it was a sexist choice of words more than anything. More than once has the phrase "How many dicks did she have to suck to get there?" been uttered by less successful, sexist men when confronted with a successful female in a position of power. There is a lot of sexism behind the accusation of being a dick sucker. If the slur has an origin in homophobia, that's news to me. Still, there is a point in not calling others a dick sucker, sexism is hardly better than homophobia.

Rust Martialis posted:you try to frantically deny you meant it as an insult No, I quite obviously meant it as an insult and have reiterated as much, you're the one reading homophobia into it where none was intended—you'll notice my main focus here has been the virulently homophobic and misogynist nature of the genocidal Wahhabi death cult my government is materially supporting with one hand, as it bans veils and mandates handshakes to ostensibly combat creeping "Islamification" with the other. I'm familiar with callouts and while they can be warranted, I've also watched many leftist online communities and activist groups utterly destroy themselves over the pettiest, superficial poo poo while dyed-in-the-wool nazi thugs are lacing up their Docs to stomp on the heads of ethnic and sexual minorities, poverty and homelessness are skyrocketing due to austerity, and man-made climate disaster is gearing up to lay waste to civilisation. I've spent more time on this than I cared to, so I apologise profusely to any LGBTQ individuals who might've take offense to the mention of fellatio as a submissive act. I also implore any right-thinking person to stop using the word "bad" entirely in any context, as it is inherently perjorative against intersex people and effeminate men (look it up).

It's actually real easy to deal with getting language policed if you apologize first instead of doubling down and getting really defensive before giving a lovely non-apology. We all like using harsh language to denigrate the people that do monstrous things, but when you're using something like dicksucker as an insult, you're being homophobic/sexist/etc. The distinction and context don't really matter. "Yeah, sorry, point taken" is an incredibly easy thing to say which doesn't devalue your point in any way or make people think less of you. You should try it sometime. I've never been cannibalized by the left, and I have plenty of friends who are radical even by my standards.

In case these kind of phrases are said in English remember that us non native speakers are often very bad at quickly and instinctively properly weighting and selecting the correct word in a conversation, despite being otherwise pretty fluent in the language. If that dane for example would have wanted to say "that gay presenter" that could have been totally ok depending on the context etc.

I think there's a difference between straight up calling a person "cocksucker" or "human being" and using the colloquial term "suck dick" to imply submissiveness. My apology was disingenuous, though, well spotted; I think that particular brand of tumblr brain rot is an ideological carcinogen, no offense intended to those on neurology or oncology wards. I'm totally serious about the word "bad", however. Its etymological root is the Old English word for hermaphrodite, so tread carefully and consider saying "ungood" instead.

So in case anyone wondered how low this election campaign would go,the Bali thing yesterday is another step on the continuing downward spiral. It is going to get worse. On more relevant things, VBK had a point (as usual) on the possible ruling coalitions, where Löfven stated last week that passive support from SD to S was not a problem. My question is rather, what happens if SD consistently vote no to any coalition where SD don’t have any influence? Given the current polls, S&M have less than 50% of the votes, which means that any coalition will be a mishmash. L&C won’t support any coalition with V and vice versa, so basically we have roughly 20% in Mp, L and C, which is not enough to push over 50% given current polls.

I hate to have to tell you this, but the man is right and the reaction here is a pretty damning indictment of Scandinavian (or at least Danish) culture. We all think we're hot poo poo because we're known to be open and accepting, but we cannot deal with people telling us that our language and actions are hurting people. It's really easy to not be homophobic if you're open to the idea that you might hurt someone without intending to, and that that's ok.
