The amount of houses I see just with no overhang or eaves boggles my mind. My house cops the afternoon sun straight on to the face of the house. It's poor design from the street level up and the blame all comes back to the land developers

Nearly every house in my friend's housing estate is the same, no verandahs, houses almost built to the fence line and no loving trees. I live in suburbia myself, but in an older area where there's still trees and some space between houses for vegetation, but my friend's place depresses me whenever I go out there because it is so sterile.

In a couple of weeks I will be helping to run a fundraiser for my local branch of the Greens. The event is a "Games and Cocktails Night" at the William Bligh rum bar in the city's East End. We last ran this in January and it was a huge success that sold out of tickets so I reckon you should give this a look if you enjoy board games, cocktails, meeting new people or being a nerd. There's no need to know any games - instead the plan is that we take care of you as soon as you arrive, setting up and teaching the games and introducing you to the other players.

All tickets come with a complimentary cocktail and the William Bligh bartenders showed us last time that they really know their stuff. We also have a bigger and better raffle with $200 worth of prizes including new board games, chocolates and bottles of wine and port. Concession price tickets are available.

Check out our event page here, and ask me here if you have any questions about the event.

Party Whip Nola Marino will announce the results of ballot in the courtyard.

But the press gallery is now so used to this (we haven’t done a full term without a leadership chance since 2007) the cameras are already in position.

Malcolm Turnbull wins the leadership - 48 to 35

Sky News is reporting that Malcolm Turnbull survived the challenge.

But those numbers suggest that close to half the party supports Peter Dutton.

That is not good news for Turnbull moving forward.

We would expect Dutton to step down from the Cabinet now.

That is a super slim victory.

Second :auspol: when? A week, two?

Abbott survived 7 months with a greater margin vs an empty chair. Camp Dutton will grow now the numbers are known.
