I've been thinking about the slot corner position and how it's due for a lot of growth soon. In many ways it's a more difficult position than the outside. You need amazing speed and quickness and also physicality because every size and speed of receiver lines up in the slot sometimes now. Teams are going over the middle more and more because those are high percentage throws, and slot corners have so much more area to cover than outside corners. They need to play the receivers release no matter what direction it goes.

Not only that, you need to be able to play the run like a safety and also you're in a great position to blitz off the edge frequently so you need to be good at that too. I expect slot corner salaries to increase, more talented corners with the right traits will be moved into the slot and it will become a premium position.

Finally, teams are no longer in base defense the majority of the time; nickel is essentially the new base given how much teams are throwing. So in many cases slot corners are getting a LOT of snaps when they used to be somewhat limited.

Derek Lokey took a picture and kind of looked like a full-cheeked squirrel. Someone saw that and looked him up on LinkedIn. He's the director of client services. Then they put a picture of a squirrel on his picture instead of him.

Andy Benoit's complete season predictions, what do you guys think? I think the Lions and the Giants are too high and the Titans are too low (and maybe the Raiders as well). Beyond that it seems like a bunch of pretty standard conventional-wisdom picks that I cold easily see happening.

Beating the Pats in the NFCCG AFCCG and a close Super Bowl (or dramatic comeback by ATL)? Sign me the gently caress up.

Not that I feel this way, but I think what he'd say is that last year when they went 10-6 in the toughest division in football after a slow start. They're the only NFC team to advance to the playoffs for the last two years. They beat the Rams handily and were one catch away from defeating the eventual champion Eagles and advancing to the Championship round. They've added the top drafted receiver in the class and their defense is uniformly young and seeming to get better every year. So I can see why he thinks the Falcons are so hot right now

Jets have the absolute worst Super Odds of any team in the NFL at the moment. There's no chance them making the playoffs is conventional wisdom.

Yeah there's a couple picks in there that are unconventional, but you need some of those. It's not like the season is going to go exactly as the oddsmakers predict, Rams and Eagles are two teams that weren't given much of a chance this time last year. Probably he's just huffing Darnold's farts a bit too hard.

Yeah he's a dumb oval office and probably a racist like most people who work in sports journalism

I think the middle of the AFC is so questionable that I wouldn't be surprised at anyone making the playoffs.

Like would anyone really be that shocked if the Jets made it to 9-7 and beat out like, I dunno the Titans or Texans or Ravens for a wildcard spot?

One has to wonder if the organization is at fault at a certain point. There's no reason for the Giants and Chargers to always be hurt unless Rivers and Eli are still mad about draft day and hiring men to sabotage each other.

Yeah I wouldn't be that shocked, although I think the AFC South, North and West have a better chance to send a team as the wildcard than the East. But at the end of the day the differences are small and the Jets going froma five win team to a nine win team with new quarterbacking is totally plausible. The AFC is probably going to a send several 9 and 10 win teams to the playoffs whereas the NFC might not send any

I’ve said all year the Jets and Dolphins have way more talent than people give them credit for.

Darnold ends up being legit they got scary fast. Miami needs Gesicki and Mcmillan to be legit. More variables.
