NumbersMatching320 posted:I'm still weirded out by the idea of an IP running off a belt at all (in my world your IP and cam(s) are all on gears, or you get an IP per cylinder and they each get their own cam lobe. Also the geartrains are all at the back these days except on the Cummins...) but the slaved belt setup doesn't seem that odd. Seems like it puts the pump in a better position if you want to play with timing, adjust stuff or swap it entirely. Its not like Toyota put them somewhere where its difficult to get to either?

Finished building my Franken Injection Pump, we have boost enrichment working now, so we took the car down to the Treffen VW Show at Altanta Motor Speedway, it did great! ....until coming home, and then the power steering/brake pump blew a seal. Do you check rockauto for parts for those? I just ordered a ton of stuff for the scirocco and the prices are hilarious. Got the dipstick plastic piece for 16 cents (ordered 3, gently caress it), gates timing belt for 5 bucks, continental accessory belts for like 3-4 bucks, hoses for 5-6. I couldn't believe it, I got tons of spares for like 100 bucks and 40 of that was a Bosch coil. It's crazy. No idea why all that old VW stuff is so cheap.

2.5l TDI Turbocharger and manifold arrived! So we're dropping from a K24 Petrol turbo to a K14 TDI turbo, should boost much better at low throttle. Had to fashion a EGR block plate until a machined one arrives: Unfortunately, the turbo petrol intake manifold is too low to run the TDI manifold without spacers, so I had to continue to use them. Before: Both together: After: Will have to fashion a new downpipe.

Perhaps your camera doesn't pick up diesel clatter in the cabin, but I didn't expect it to sound so similar to the gas 5 cylinder. It's a good thing.

That's perfect. I like diesels and all but the rattle isn't that cool. Turbo and exhaust note are where it's at.

We'll see how it sounds when it gets turned from Indirect Injection to Direct Injection. New Pistons, New Head, etc. I mean, you can tell its a diesel when its running and you are not in the car, it does rattle.

So, sometime while driving home this evening, the water pump, which tensions the timing belt, loosened and slacked the timing belt. It jumped a tooth, which was enough to make the engine cough and die. Thankfully, no lasting damage, re-timed after towing to the shop and drove back home, but disconcerting, as that means the bolts on the pump are not doing their jobs.
