Since July 1st: 47 wRC+. It's Zobrist's wrist in 2017 all over again but up to 11 because unlike Zobrist, Russell wasn't that great of hitter before being injured so he's been playing even worse.

He threw a bullpen the other day and said that while he felt some minor pain, that : I thought [the bullpen] was OK. I threw the ball really well. [Theres] just stuff sticking around that I think Im going to have to live with the rest of the year. So if it holds up and stays the same, I think I should be good. So either the injury got worse or the Cubs disagree with letting him ramp up despite the pain, I wager.

Contreras has been playing like absolute poo poo lately (.227/.327/.318, 78 wRC+ since the ASB) is clearly frustrated about it. I'm also harboring the suspicion he's playing through some kind of nagging injury. His swing timing is all kinds of broken right now.

From what I understand what he has isn't visible in a normal MRI, he had to get a specific type where they inject a contrast dye under the skin to make the picture clearer. The problem is that the injection can lead to lingering soreness/aches, so obviously for a pitcher already complaining about arm pain you don't want to go that route except as an absolute last resort.

Is this an injury he'll recover from fully or something that might come back around next season? Why is the 6 weeks of rest now the cure when they gave him a lot of rest when they shut him down? Obviously something is wrong but the whole thing seems to be handled oddly.

In my wildest dreams I did not expect Hamels to be this good with the Cubs. At worst I thought he'd clear the bar of "not Chatwood" that isn't actually a bar and just a metal rod lying on the ground, and at best he'd be middling back of the rotation depth who could eat innings. Instead they've gotten Verlander 2.0 so far.

Does anyone remember that Sosa homer down Kenmore in like 2003? They had it marked on the street for awhile. Hill's homer was probably longer than Javy's but I don't think by much. That centerfield camera well is so far away and that sailed over it.

<----- Motha fuckin' this guy.  Mills was a pleasant surprise, and I'm content, for lack of a better word, with Murphy. I'm not happy with his statement a couple years ago, and while maybe he's had a change of heart at best, he's at least wise enough to realize what he said was dumb and hasn't doubled down. This would be in contrast to someone like Trevor Bauer, who's probably at least as much of a MAGA chud and homophobe but is considerably more obnoxious.
