As always I invite people to read and be sad/mad about Double House and Sugar Wa Oshigoto with me. And to please read Yokohama Shopping Trip and experience and experience an incredibly broad and complex spectrum of emotions with me, thank you.

I have trouble reading Yokohama Shopping Trip because every chapter is so atmospheric that I take a long time just soaking it in. Like in the absolute best way. Its sense of tone, pacing, and paneling are awe-inspiring to me. Like I wish I could do in prose what it does in graphic narrative form.

Oh, idk, I come in the thread once in awhile and see what's up. Usually if I'm in a mood to read manga I come here and see what's been posted, and it just so happens you've posted nice stuff! I think I'm gonna read Yokohama Shopping Trip now.

When I was younger and I wore my hair long I actually had this happen to me. We were camping and it was one of those communal showers, and I was standing there combing my hair out when this guy walked in, caught a glimpse of me, and went "Oh God I'm so sorry!" To this day I regret that I corrected him, because it would have been so much funnier to let him walk into the actual women's bathroom next door. (Also Dis, I too love your recs. Never change. <3)

https://twitter.com/KodanshaUSA/status/1031978929479806976 Stray Bullet Baby is by the author who wrote some good poo poo like Blue Sky Complex and has been on my to-read list for a while so I'll definitely have to get that one. Of the rest... Keeping His Whims in Check was never scanlated so idk about that one, I've read two other manga by the author and one of them I rated pretty low and the other one was OK but not spectacular. I'm not super interested in this one. Intertwining Lives was also not scanned so can't say on it as well, but it is the author's only BL work -- everything else they've written appears to be josei and nothing translated so this is another complete unknown, but I'm curious and will probably check this one out. Key Ring Lock I have not read but I really liked ymz's other work that I've read (Labradorescence, Sayanara Heron, and Happy Birthday) so even with the premise being a little odd I think this will be a good one and worth reading. Trap in a Skirt ...unfortunate name D: I know nothing about this author, looks like their other stuff has been anthology one-shots and a couple other books that haven't been scanned (this one wasn't either) so I have no input here

Well the good news in unlike Double House, Sugar didn't get canceled it just got dropped and never picked up by scanlators as far as I can tell. So if I ever learn Japanese. . .

NB kid works at a crossdressing maid cafe TBH I don't like that 3 out of 5/all the femme characters have the completely round generic cute face but I've only found one other piece of media where the protag says "I'm not a woman or a man" and it's a Prince album so I'll see where it goes.

I can't believe that choker is clearly not actually held in place by that lock. But the fact that her partner has the same little heart necklace and haircut as in the manga is adorable. Also it's super weird that hachimitsu started using "girlyboy" for "otoko-no-ko", because I'm sure they've done a shitload of stuff before where they did not.

Most post-apoc stuff has a lot about nature reclaiming the earth, or people fighting over the scraps of the lost world, or trying to rebuild society. Girls Last Tour doesn't have any of that. Everything's just dead.

Girls Last Tour doesn't have any of that. Everything's just dead. Yeah, there are some similarities in the setting but YKK is (to me) more about humanity winding down and leaving the world to their successors, sort of the twilight years of the species and everyone coming to grips with that, whereas GLT (I need to read the manga, only watched the anime) was more "humanity is all but dead here are their last gasping breaths let's poke around their bones and watch their creations devolve into ruin and meaninglessness". Not to say I didn't enjoy the hell out of GLT, though. DisDisDis posted:unironically Tarkovsky's Stalker I really wish I could get Tarkovsky but I'm 0-2 on Stalker and Solaris so far. I wouldn't say they're at all similar in content, and probably not even all that close in theme, but I felt like what I read of YKK hit a lot of the same melancholy buttons for me that Mushishi did.

maybe you're missing a particular love for long navel gazing films. Stalker has the nature aesthetics and atmospheric meditation on big human themes, though it's much darker than YKK imo. (Though the ending is hopeful in the same way I think YKK is.) Hita Hita (kissmanga link) has the whimsy, mark making and a bit of the lesbianism.
