Over in the Funny Panels thread, there was some recent talk about a depiction of Plastic Man imitating Harley Quinn but with a big ol' package, and it being offensive to trans people. I didn't even notice it until goons pointed it out, and I thought, "jeez, why are y'all staring at comic book crotches, who even notices that?" I'm now guilty, because holy poo poo, that Juggernaut around 2:45? That poo poo's bigger in girth than my forearm.

What really gets me about that cover is that the artist couldn't be bothered to rotate the plaid texture before c/p-ing it onto lexs suit so it's totally vertical while he's leaning to the side

Why would they lean it when the point is that it doesn't contort at all with the drawing? There's no shading on the suit at all either, while it's excellent on Porky's. The artist's obviously skilled enough that making the texture 100% flat has gotta be a style choice rather than laziness (although, gently caress doing an accurate plaid.) edit: Wonder if him and the Gotham Academy cover artist are best buds.

I don't agree with the position of "Look if they're not going to put in all the tiny details to make the cloth realistic they shouldn't put in patterns like that and just stick to base colors" but I suppose I can understand it.

Rotating it wouldn't really have looked better, since it's obviously a texture anyway, and it would create new inconsistencies along his arms. Probably better to lean into the abstraction. I think it works. And, as mentioned, gently caress drawing plaid by hand. That is the work of painstaking, crampy hours. I guess they could also have deformed the texture along a grid map? That doesn't tend to work fantastically but it might have looked better.
