They've since retconned that - I think the first daemon corpse appeared as a decapitated head being held by the female daemonhunter in the 54mm Inquisitor, but they've continued to show up in the Grey Knights range too.

If I remember my lore correctly, in times of very strong warp activity slain daemon corpses will linger in the material world. Once the warp's strength has weakened, usually from the deaths of daemons, and reality begins to return to normal the daemon corpses start to vanish. So you could have a daemon skull as a trophy as long as you stay near or in a serious warp presence (like a daemon world). I might have to skim my Liber Chaotica to refresh my heretical knowledge
