It's weirder than that, MeWe is some social network site where this guy wants you to join a group. gently caress knows why he named his Q page after it.

Honestly the rest of the Slidewizards site is pretty similar. The Q page is very OTT but the rest looks like absolutely legit old person internet with like memorial pages and veteran meetups. There's a contact number for commissioning a page from them, if anyone in Denver wants a site for their wedding photos.

Conspiracy peeps always, always love to trot out claims that some high up person, who totally cannot be identified, spilled the beans about everything. I've seen it with aliens, Chemtrails and JFK stuff, and of course it will happen with Q.

Like some guy who just happens to post on a Conspiracy board claims out of the blue a former CIA Wet works operator contacted him and told him that Aristotle Onassis killed JFK so he could marry his wife.

the best part is that occasionally that has actually happened and it inevitably turns out to be some low-rank nobody who did completely mundane work adjacent to something uber-secret and want to try to use that to wring money from the credulous. like, they worked at Area 51 fixing the air conditioning in airplane hangars or whatever and once saw something under a tarp that looked kind of weird so they write a bunch of tell-all books, do interviews on Coast to Coast AM, and go to UFO conventions for the next 20 years, with their own supposed position and role getting inflated with every retelling of the story until 'former USAF lower enlisted mechanic' becomes 'former commander of Nellis Air Force Base' or whatever

Actually that guy was a total fraud who ran a mail-order chemical supply business. He made the whole thing up to get conspiracy weirds to buy his dry ice. He ended up claiming that the government erased all traces of his Ph.D. from MIT and gave him the credentials of a middling loser like they were the men in black.

Their latest excuse is that the normies just aren't ready to hear it yet and there would be mass riots if the truth about Q was revealed to America. Which is why the emphasis has moved to red pilling, they think that if they can get a critical mas of people to believe in this poo poo, then that will be the point that they get some actual proof.

The Qult's reaction to every legal setback for Trump & co is that they're just baiting the Deep State into opening the door to discovery of incriminating evidence. A few months ago, Cohen's office getting raided was all about getting his copy of Anthony Weiner's laptop entered into evidence. Now David Pecker flipping on Trump is really just an elaborate plan to get access to all the Hillary pedovore face-eating tapes he's keeping in his safe.

Trump and Q are apparently weirdly obsessed with playing by the rules, considering all the secret arrests that have already happened, and the military tribunals and summary executions of civilians they're pushing for in the future.

I do think this needs to be emphasized - the whole "deep state" line of conspiracy thought, from which Qanon directly sprung from, was an attempt to explain why Donald Trump didn't immediately just go full-dictator like his fascist base wanted him to. People who voted for him were so excited for the God-Emperor to immediately ban abortion and gay marriage, start rounding up Muslims into camps, and publicly execute Hillary Clinton during week one of his presidency. When he ended up not doing that, they needed to concoct fanfiction where he totally wants to do those things, but sinister hidden forces are preventing him from doing so, because otherwise he'd be #winning #yugely.

Once you've already accepted this cosmology, something like Qanon is inevitable. Someone claiming to have insider knowledge that backs up existing worldviews is all it takes to get a following with conspiracy-minded individuals. Qanon is just remarkable in how outlandish its "endgame" is getting, and how many Facebook moms are getting roped into it.

This reminds me of how, early in the Obama presidency, you saw theories that Obama committing to Romneycare without a public option or constantly trying to get a Grand Bargain to cut Social Security/Medicare were actually part of a 12D chess strategy to outfox the Republicans and accomplish, something? Of course those theories didn't involve the Republicans being literal Satanic pedophile death cultists, but that's just the world we live in, isn't it.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2009/2/9/695264/-

Seriously, compare some of this to a MAGA chud talking about how Trump is the bestest guy at deals, ever:

quote:

The simple fact is that Obama is a once-in-a-generation political virtuoso who is able to think many moves ahead in the complicated game he is engaged in. As someone said to me recently, Obama's playing three-dimensional chess while we're still stuck playing checkers.

Almost without fail, Obama has time and again proven himself more shrewd and astute in the game of politics than any of the tired partisan hacks that control the media spigots of "conventional wisdom" and misinformation.

People on the left who are worked into a frenzy about how supposedly muted Obama has been at times over the last few weeks need to take a deep breath and give him a chance to prove himself to us.

Chances are, Obama is going to make all them sound pretty tone-deaf once he unveils yet another unexpected checkmate.

Reminder that Romney always hated "Romneycare" - it was a mocking name leftish people in Massachusetts gave it as the legislature forced Romney to choose between signing it, or having a guaranteed successful veto override if he tried to veto it.

And it did and continues to do wonders for health care in the state, including effectively placing 1/3 of the state on a public option thing by now through MassHealth.

What's the breaking point, though? I know some here and there have abandoned the qult, but at what point are the bulk of them forced to reckon with it all being untrue? Like, do they finally get it if one of Trump's kids gets indicted? Will they be watching Avenetti's inauguration in 2021 and waiting for the special forces to jump out and but him?

Depends on how far in they are.

If they get deep enough into the conspiracy angle of it, nothing will ever break them out of it. Even if we do have a Dem President in 2020 it's just "the next stage, too many people like the Dems now, we need to have a Dem President again so people can see how bad they really are, then we can REALLY do whatever.".

I personally partially blame the X-Files and Lost for priming the public to allow conspiracy theories to gain mainstream acceptance.

X-Files cast theorists as sexy and misunderstood crusaders of truth and justice. Lost trained and rewarded people to think like conspiracy theorists, and ended on the message that not only are science, skepticism, and empiricism stupid and evil, but also that only blind faith in God and The Plan can save mankind from it's own inheirent self-destructive sinfulness.

At least Deus Ex posited that conspiracy theorists could be just as dangerous as the conspiracies they purport to fight.
