I actually read that in a post and now I'm having trouble finding it, so I might be wrong about that, in which case it does become a little more sketchy than I thought. I was definitely under the impression you had the option to just pay for the console and back out.

But in a world full of actual disgusting scams that prey on the poor, this doesn't seem offensive at all, even if a theoretical price drop is a thing. Everything about it seems fair enough. Phil Spencer is making all the right moves and doesn't seem to let the corporate suits push him around like Don Mattrick probably did (and look how that turned out). He probably told them to shove their profiteering if they want the Xbox division to succeed next gen. Same goes for the Xbox adaptive controller: https://www.cnet.com/news/microsofts-new-xbox-adaptive-controller-puts-disabled-players-back-in-the-game/ which is so niche that they could've gouged it but chose to keep it at $99.

In regards to the MCC, is the ~75GB of hard drive space required if everything that it offers is installed? I have 44GB available at the moment and I'm wondering how much more room I'll have to clear up if I want to experience everything the collection has to offer.

Its not a good deal in the least, unless you like paying full price for everything. The X1S plan is OK at best, but X1X's regularly go for $400-425 on ebay NEW, and as low as $320-350 new when eBay runs their 15-20% coupons. Unless this payment plan is going to adjust for sales (it won't), its garbage. Black Friday sales are coming up soon too. This is designed for people that cannot afford a console. This isn't even accounting for the numerous Xbox Live Gold sales.

The ~75 gigs seems to include everything including the data for ODST (which you'd still have to own as DLC to be able to play, that "DLC" is just a 10 meg unlock file now). It also seems like you need this space to start off, and then you're able to clear space if that's something you want to do.

I'm imagining that the next generation cutoff is going to be blurred than before. What I mean is, remember the first year of Xbox one/PS4 where practically every game was available on old and new Gen? Even destiny was released on Xbox 360 and Xbox one in 2014. What if this time games just straight up work on new and older Gen? Just for the first year or something. The new generation runs it at higher resolution and more stable framerate plus extra effects. Same copy of the game sold, works on ps4/ps5 and its a year or two before we get true ps5 exclusives. But yes I'm thinking the new Xbox could start at $500 and if you have an Xbox one x you may not feel the need to upgrade for a year or two until the price drop but Microsoft can get in users with the finance plan. Or you could sell your one x and just pay the difference the new console. With Microsoft promising to keep your library, there wouldn't be any reason to keep an older Xbox one.

I think it's going to be weirder than that, given that if you make a game run on a next-gen console at native 4K, I don't think you can do so in such a way that it would be impossible to have it running trivially at 900p on a regular Xbox One or PS4. The tech hasn't really shifted. Hell, in the PC space do we even have a single game yet with minimum requirements above 8 gigs of DDR3 system RAM (at least for 1080p non-VR)? It's not helped by the fact that buying X amount of RAM today for a PC is like twice as expensive as it was to buy that exact same kind and amount of RAM in late 2013, so PC's aren't even a driving force for that extra graphics push like they used to be back in the Crysis days.

Yeah, and if Sony really does make backwards compatibility for ps4 on the ps5, it'll make the first couple of years less of a pressure to upgrade. Want the ps5? You can sell your ps4. Want to wait for the price drop? You can keep playing your ps4 and continue to play the newer games, even if it's worse resolution and not as good framerate. And texture downscaled a bit. This could allow Microsoft and Sony to release $500 machines that can drop to $400 in a year and a half. What would be important is that the servers would be shared between the new and older consoles. With cross play on the rise, I could totally see this happening so Xbox can claim 'we have 10 million people playing halo infinite' even if just one million is on the new Xbox and the other 9 come from og Xbox one/one s/one x/pc.

We definitely are with way fewer exceptions than you'd think, considering games like Destiny and Metal Gear Solid V (both GZ and TPP) made it to PS3 and Xbox 360, and tons of Japanese games got PS3 versions as well as PS4 versions until pretty recently. And that was with the current gen consoles having 16 times the RAM as the previous gen systems. While we don't know a lot about the next gen systems, I'd be surprised if they even had 32 gigs of RAM, let alone 64 or 128.

you can 'hack' blops 2 by opening up a video in the game which gives you a hack menu so pretty much every lobby is poo poo because it's as simple as opening up the game's theatre mode and clicking on the most popular video you don't have to be modded to do this
