Nazis commonly use the phrase "1488" or just "88" as a shorthand for nazi poo poo. It comes from the idea that H is the eighth letter of the alphabet, so 88=HH=Heil Hitler.

The "14" part is a reference to "the 14 words," a famous nazi slogan popularized by David Lane, a leader of a white nationalist terror group called The Order, who did some seriously nasty poo poo including the murder of Alan Berg. The fourteen words themselves - "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." - bear a remarkable resemblance to a passage from Mein Kampf. '88' is also a reference to David Lane's '88 precepts' that he published in white supremacist literature about how to be a good nazi or whatever.

14, 88, and the combination 14/88 are common identifiers, and are frequently found in white supremacist tattoos along with things like double lightning bolts and iron crosses and poo poo.

I pulled up Warframe last night. Turns out that I still had various things from a brief flutter with the older game when it was effectively a tunnel shooter, so I ended up running some missions in my bright pink and yellow Volt outfit.

Wow, they really have changed it up, although the Grineer still move like they poo poo themselves. It really gives a whole night and day feel to comparing SC to it. Shooting works, sticking bits of metal works, and mobility fricking well works. I still have no clue what I'm doing, but it's actually fun to gently caress around.

Seriously, the SC fans really come across as insisting that the number of lights is still in alpha, so any talk of there being three or four is entirely premature, when there are plainly three lights.

All the deep cover operatives outing themselves ITT. Stay frosty, troops.

Edit: Oh, and Destiny, lol. Warframe just feels better than Destiny ever did, which is weird.

Then there's the inevitable crossover into Norse mythology, as it turns out that Aryan was an Indian concept (The swastika is a Sanskrit symbol) that they've never quite managed to square because the whole Vedic thing is a little above the reading comprehension level, so everything got forklifted to Scandanavia, with Finland being their largest traction point.

Vulknut's galore when you start hanging around people like that, and there's even more crossover with the various European and American bike gangs, because the 1%ers ("Most motorcycle enthusiasts are law-abiding, but there's about 1%....") tend to crave a certain amount of violence/danger in their lives. The Warlocks are usually the problem in our bit of Central Florida.

The semiotics are really interesting though; literal signalling at the moment.

Colostomy Bag posted:

Partially. The Kaliber of 8.8 centimeters was introduced to German land warfare with the Flak 18 which was developed in the 1920s as a successor to the Flak 16, which was produced on the last weeks of ww1.

The Kaliber originated like many larger artillery and AAA pieces from naval armament, specifically from the 8,8 cm SK L/45 in Mittelpivotlafette C/13 which was, as the name implies, developed in 1913.

Overall the 8.8 Kaliber is of WW1/ Kaiserreich origin.

The later models of the Flak 18/36/37 and obviously the adaption to the 8,8cm Kampfwagenkanone 36 (L/56) in the Panzer VI Tiger and the Adaption in Form of the Kampfwagenkanone 43 (L/71) in the Panzer VI Tiger ll made them to an insignia of the Wehrmacht and therefore the third Reich.

Also the ss symbol isn't actually lightning bolts, but an old norse rune called sowilo, sol or sig depending on the epoch. Simplified, it represents the sun and victory. (Success, in a larger definition.)

The nazis took a bunch of imagery for their own designs.

The Pagan's motorcycle gang out here in Long Island got arrested en-mass after a deep cover sting operation. Overnight the Russian mob took over the drugs and the strip clubs went to imported Russian girls.
That's my story about neo nazi motorcycle gangs.
Oh and about twenty years back my then fiance got clocked in the face by a Pagan biker girl.
So that's my two stories about neo nazi motorcycle gangs.

Yeah, I started down a long post about the use of the elder futhark (Runes) to provide anchoring with mysticism - the oak leaves come from the dark ages and the Hexenhammer group that was so amazingly parodied in the Illuminati trilogy.

The Reich wanted to come up with a mythology to support the idea of an entirely new history after they'd consolidated power, and Hitler's steady fall into psychosis kinda reinforced the weird loyalty of the SS over the pragmatism of the actual Army, who saw the SS as lunatics. Doesn't help that they started handing out the Meth to keep the troops fighting.

Star lancer was pretty fun, but if I remember it had a level about half way through the game where I think you were just transferred to another carrier (your original one was blown up :aaaaa: ) and there was some kind of a time attack thing where you had to save a very weak ship. If I remember it was very hard and failing it just ended the game with a cutscene.

I don't think I got past that, it was very frustrating. It was a long mission, and the last segment had this sudden escort or save us thing, and it was tough. Going through the whole mission to fail at the last part over and over was infuriating.

The targeting controls in starlancer were hosed closest target never was and next enemy would skip things. If you ever used them it just broke the mission half the time.

If you left autotarget active all the time it led you through the targets in the right order to complete the mission even if it meant flying past stuff to attack a fighter on the other side of the battle in a really lame and obvious way once you noticed it. Deviation from the preset dev plan was almost always a fail.

The target torpedo control was the same, you had to manually go through them as closest torpedo was very rarely the closest.

Hitler actually financed a ton of archeological work looking into the Germanic people, convinced that they would find evidence that the Germanics were superior in every way over the ancient civilizations such as Greece and Rome.

All they discovered is that they were, in fact, just a bunch of barbarian hordes.

The upside was a lot of information was learned about the ancient history of those people. So that's one good thing.

I 'ran' with the Stafford Eagles for a while, but there comes a time when you're in or you're out, and I was most definitely out.

The Warlocks are a pretty solid presence up and down I4 and occasionally shoot up The Outlaws or the Dirty White Boys, depending on who's around in Daytona.

A Chris Roberts standard is the 'defend a ship from attacks that might come from multiple directions', and that particular mission I seem to recall had three flights of bombers that would come in from different directions, giving you a very limited amount of time to react and save the carrier or whatever it was from attack.

I still massively enjoyed Wing Commander:Prophecy; The Piranha handled like an angry race car.

I'm not sure if anyone really 'wants' to play Star Citizen. The cultists seem less concerned about playing a game and experiencing adventure than they are about escaping real life.
