Hot Dog Day #91 posted:Sometimes I wonder if I could ever leave public service. I just don't think I could do it. Not having a profit motive is really nice. Congrats and also I’m sorry. Re: In-house. My first in-house shot was a nonprofit. I was top two. Perfect fit. Experience with all the job duties, although not with the core mission (which doesn’t matters and no lawyer would have). The GC I interviewed with used to work at my firm. The nonprofit used my firm for some of their legal work. Came back for a one hour interview that ended up lasting over two hours. Didn’t get it. I know who got it and he had less experience and a flighty resume. I was at such a low point at my firm then that it sunk me in a huge depression for about 6 months. My wife was like suicide watch on me which I resented at the time bc I wasn’t going to do that but I appreciate now that she did that. My second in house interview was 18 months later. It was a group interview with a VP and all the senior lawyers. It lasted 25 minutes. My experience was eh for the job duties. I had studied the company but it didn’t really come up. I walked out like lol welp maybe next time. They called my references the next day and I got it. In-house doesn’t make any sense.

That awkward moment when an associate you like at a firm you hate asks you for a recommendation phone call. You see the pleading in their eyes. You want to help them... but you’re afraid the stench of that firm has scarred them for life. Seriously though. I hope he gets it. Meanwhile beat sabres on hard mode life goal achieved.

It's always a good time when the judge rips you a new one, then gives you the orders you want. And then the opposing party has to be gently escorted away by the bailiff as he yells at the court. The next hearing is going to be a treat. Edit: AR you know better than to even ask the elf question.

Speaking of govt officials, Illinois has a fun case coming up. Plaintiffs allege State farm illegally funded a supreme Court Justice race to the tune of about 4 mil with expectation he would cast the deciding vote to overturn a billion dollar class action judgment against them (he did). It's survived motion to dismiss and MSJ , plaintiffs just won a motion letting a judicial ethics expert testify. The document management system is barely capable of making documents, much less managing them.

Discendo Vox posted:Tell me more, please. What context, and what made things dope or miserable? I used CLIO for the two years I did clinic. It was awesome for document automation, keeping client files organized, being able to work from anywhere, and a really easy interface. The downside is that it’s a little expensive. LegalEdge was designed to work on WindowsXP, has terrible functionality, and I think is only used by PD offices because it’s cheap. Same with OnBase.

My office uses pro-law which isn't really designed for groups that don't bill hours and don't do traditional litigation. It sucks out loud. My PD office used a custom system that basically used PDFs. It was probably klunky as hell on the back-end but was actually pretty great in use. We all got ipads, so we could access our files and take notes in court and even in the jail (jail allow us to bring them). nm fucked around with this message at 05:05 on Aug 30, 2018 |

I really appreciate all of this. In the (admittedly unlikely) possibility that this recommendation pulls through and I wind up in some sort of senior information/knowledge management position (despite having last done a sharepoint prep integration like a decade ago), I'll do my best to put it to good use. As partial repayment, please have a recently posted submission to the Comic Strips thread, from "Pros and Cons" The joke is supposed to be that he's a bad/dishonest lawyer.
