Even disregarding that, the fact that his art is torn off walls and sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars kinda tells me it's not really doing a great job of making its point to the kind of people in a position to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a section of Banksy-touched wall.

There's probably a term for a creative work that is watered down over time by exposure and imitation and it becomes harder to appreciate the original, I think banksy fits that mold

I read a story in GiP about one time on a West German US Army base where they burned a bunch of pallets that were Vietnam War surplus. The treatment that they had put on the wood to stop it from being rotted by tropical parasites was catalysed to a methamphetamine analog by the fire, and assaults, indecent behaviour and general crime on base went up by over a thousand percent that week.
