Hey, look. Look, if- if you screw me on this, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine, you rat bastard!
Whenever anyone plays a German character in a movie and everyone on the internet goes, "Oh, they're doing their best Werner Herzog impression!"

I want an Inside The Actors' Studio where it's just Herzog playing clips of every movie and TV show where the actor has been compared to doing a version of him and rating how accurate they actually are.

Okay, just watched Hereditary (this thread is great for making me watch movies I'd been meaning to watch so I can mouse over spoilers) and my IIMM is it built up so much scary/creepy character-based psychological horror and then just kinda farted itself out.

The dude playing the villain in Jack Reacher did a really good version.

That had more to do with the entire production being a shitshow money pit than any intent, though

In Friends, there is a certain recipe of cookie that makes Ross vomit. He mistakenly eats that cookie and then tells the others that he ate the wrong cookie and they need to get “out of the way.” However, there is no one actually in his way. Him saying that accomplishes nothing and actually wastes time.

I'd just like to observe that even with my Firebug shenanigans to fit in longer thread titles than SA naturally allows, this doesn't entirely fit. Damnit.

I really wanna watch Hereditary because it sounds really scary but the scene I last posted about really disturbs me. I used to think that I was finally broken enough as a person that no fictional media could affect me, but nope, I still have a scrap of humanity left that I need to find a way to extinguish. That poor little girl. :(

It's by far the most impactful part of the film and it doesn't turn into emotional misery porn afterwards.

Actually it doesnt. Most* women are fully back to normal immediately after birth. Running, jumping, leaving the baby in a grotto while climbing up a cliff, it's no big deal to a regular woman.

My latest irritating moment is that Mute was so badly received, cause I really liked it and I don't get the reviews. It's definitely rough around the edges, but even that gives it a certain quality.

Also that the showdown takes places in the mountains. You have to go quite a long way from Berlin to hit mountains like that. It's a very long way to prove a point.

I really liked how it was a German-tinged cyberpunk film. Usually cyberpunk is tinged Japanese or at least pan-asian, so that was fun.

Looking forward to a Russian-tinged cyberpunk film tho. Kind of a middle-ground: anglophones don't speak the language (also true for Asian/German), but still has the non-latin alphabet (where Asian does, but German doesnt).

EXISTENCE IS PAIN😬
I watched Van Helsing again, and I guess when I saw it in theaters I missed a chunk of the prologue because I didn't remember it was in black and white like old timey monster movies.

When the windmill explodes and Dracula is angrily staring at the wreckage, why doesn't he go in there and search for Frankenstein's monster? He's impervious to regular fire and him and his wives have super strength so digging through flaming wreckage shouldn't be a problem. Seems like he gives up rather quickly; "Oh well that didn't work time to try the same thing on Werewolves".

Yeah. Ultimately I felt the movie wasn't scary but that scene was rough. The entire theater just went silent at that point because goddamn. I figured they were going to get got somehow but that was not what I expected. Jesus Christ.

My Lovely Horse

I've seen Moon as well now, and it was very good, but I really don't think it's that much better than Mute. Certainly not to the point of a 70% higher rottentomatoes approval rating. I'm prepared to argue that it's in fact very slightly worse.

(Okay, it's not, Mute does lack a certain thematic strength. But come on they're not that far apart.)

It also kinda tickles me that David Bowie's son makes movies about lone spacemen and the underworld of 80s Berlin (apart from the cyberpunk aesthetics Mute's Berlin is super duper 80s).
