I'm not saying that Steele wasn't competent, intelligent, and effective for the GOP - he absolutely was. But he was not the "most qualified" person for the job when he got it. He had been Leiutenant Governor of in a blue state) (the Democrats lost that election because the Governor divorced his wife to marry his secretary), and he was an unsuccessful senatorial candidate. The GOP leadership chose Steele because Obama had just been elected and they wanted to establish their own minority cred. That was why 2 of the 4 candidates for the job were black.

But you absolutely are right about why they fired him. He was too pigmented for the GOP base to accept.

Steele was fired because the grassroots crazies (and the politicians who were afraid of the grassroots) turned on him and he authorized a ton of wasteful spending that pissed off donors.

He said that Rush Limbaugh was just an entertainer and had no role in Republican Party, made some comments about how the Republican Party could accidentally seem racist sometimes and they were fixing it, and made some pro-immigration noises.

Then, he had that infamous Strip Club party/fundraiser that lost money, spent $17k on a private jet, $13k for limo services, and booked a hotel penthouse that cost $9k for two nights.

Once the crazies and donors had something to use against him, about 5 other people jumped into the chairman race and he lost.

The rest of the redactions will fill in a few more gaps. But the story will be told by various people. Trump can give the synopsis at his rallies. But actually a lot of the traitors are boring. And there are so many. So the full story will be told by one or more trusted officials (don't know who yet).

But we also have to remember there will be indictments against Don Jr and others because that's what dying deep states do. There will always be defense against those. Simpson (paid by Hillary) met with the same Russian lawyer and translator the day before and the day after the Don Jr Trump Tower meeting. So that was clearly a setup against Don Jr. But Don Jr will be indicted for eating a ham sandwich and sending the email to the person arranging the meeting. Plus they will go for Trump tax returns. And things I haven't thought of.
