The Economist is doing a series of charts based on the odds they calculute of Ds or Rs winning seats in the midterm elections. They're interactive and updated every day. They give Ds a 71 chance of winning, that's up from 60-something a month ago.
https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/2018/05/24/whos-ahead-in-the-mid-term-race

As an aside, I'm working on part 2 of a little hobby project that will produce some charts that I want to look nice. Mind if I ask the thread for advice? Its possible they're awful but probably not in a funny way.

There are two issues. One is having posts deleted, which will permanently screw up a thread, with a severity depending on how many posts were deleted.

The other is that sometimes, somebody will make a post, but it won't show up until somebody makes another post in the thread, but will show up as an unread post in thread lists. (I think, I don't remember the exact symptoms.)

Pretty sure the latter is a caching problem.

I remember seeing a similar one about projected wage growth in Australia over the past 10 years, you could sense their desperation as time went on.

Great.

When I see graphs like that, for some reason I just picture Dennis Hopper in Waterworld getting the crowd all hyped up to get to rowin' for that dry land. That line is the oil, deep down in the belly of that tanker, getting lower all the time.

I didn't say it made much sense, but that's what I picture.

I hate the x-axis labelling on this graph too because it's not super clear that the years are meant to be the gaps between the lines rather than the lines themselves.

Semi-related: What happened in 2010 that caused the one and only sudden spike upwards? Was it just a recovery from the sharp downward spike from the previous year or was some specific legislation put in place to respond to said drop?

Ferrets should be above Dogs and Cats on the Effort scale. While they can make excellent pets they're not tame at all and can be adorably destructive fur-snakes if you don't know how to handle them. Horses should be lower on fun. You gotta be a dedicated horse person with a big ol' plot of land to really enjoy a horse. Ideally with a giant stack of cash, and someone else to shovel the manure.

Apparently in some places it's common for teenage girls who like horses to get a "care horse". That means they take care of the horse, shovel the manure, feed them, whatever, and get to ride on them occassionally. These teenagers PAY the owners of the horse for the privilege of being allowed to do so.

Paying someone to be allowed to shovel manure. Indeed.

I think the bulk of the effort is mainly from making them exist in the first place.

I was told that you need to let female ferrets breed once a year or they die and the male ferrets stinky piss everywhere which ranks somewhat higher than cats imo.

I think the female ferret thing is only if you don't get them spayed though. It has something to do with a buildup of hormones but if they've been fixed then they no longer produce them.

But yeah there's a reason why 90% of pets are either cats or dogs. There are a lot of animals that fall under the category of "tame" but not "domesticated".
