I hate that it's not out yet but they're pushing all this hype

Once it actually comes out I can find some good seeds and update my guide

Your guide really helped me get out of the early game. Thanks!

This is exactly the type of armor customization I am looking for. These guys make great design decisions.

I just started playing this game and it's really loving rad. Just the right amount of strategy and organizational management to keep me interested for hours on end. I just got into my first fight with ancient auxillary, in a god damned swamp. They had two necrosavants and now I don't have any archers left in my company. Even when things go wrong game is a ton of fun. Where can I find the guide that Heironymous Alloy wrote?

The map seeds it recommends may be broken now due to patching changes.

Hey thanks! I like taking my chances on random seeds, I've kind of been playing it like more of a rogue like, rather than trying to "win" the long game. The game reminds of dwarf fortress in that regard. Some of the most fun stories come from the way things unravel at a moment's notice.

So I wanted to see if there is any quantity of Brigands that can pose a threat to a late game company.

There is.

And then I had to win a siege battle without my best two-hander bro. :v:

I've taken on groups that size without any trouble before but I tend to have like 7 or 8 guys with greatswords which completely obliterates them

4 of the bros I took into that battle are level 5 or below. Took me a long time to find decent recruits this run and I lost two high level bros just before the war broke out.

So it took a bit longer because my new bros would miss a lot. And my greatsword bro paid for it when a Leader came for him and he could no longer trigger Reach Advantage due to Overwhelm stacks. I managed to rotate him out but by then he'd gotten injured.

It turns out 31 orcs is too many orcs.

Incidentally, that's how I lost those two bros.

Late game Warlord camps are pretty harsh.

vyelkin

There's this one warlord camp that's been taunting me the whole game. I know there's a good unique armour there, I keep getting tavern rumours about it, and once I fought my way through it and lost like my entire company just to see what it was, then reloaded because everyone was dead.

This time I saw that it was mostly orc young and thought "hey I can handle a bunch of orc young" because the previous times this camp kicked my rear end it was mostly warriors doing it. It turns out that 20 orc young will still ruin your day because they'll move before anyone in heavy armour and your entire frontline will be permanently stunned, letting the warriors and berserkers gang up on your flanks.

Yeah I had a full company of 20 and was thinking "some of you probably need to retire" but I couldn't bear to cut them loose. Well then I did a warlord's camp. They got cut, alright.

I get kind of frustrated when rookies die and it depresses my veterans or turns them into alcoholics. Like you knew the guy for two days, he could barely handle a sword. Two of those guys go down and now you're an alcoholic.

It's a lot more poignant when one of your surviving starter brothers becomes an alcoholic after you've lost like...50 guys over the course of your campaign.

I had both of those happen to me recently. One of my original brothers got Drunkard 350 days into the game (and he was the guy with nearly 100 melee attack and a Man Splitter axe so the extra damage is appreciated and he's still really accurate) and then a sellsword I've had in the party for less than a month got it too. I swear I hadn't even lost anyone since then, so he must have been thinking of people who died before I hired him.

I had a cultist convert a daythaler to his cult. The daythaler got beheaded by a Nachrezar, and the cultist got drunkard. This game is great.

I've had problems finding uniques in my current run so at some point I just went for Warlord camps.
I hit up three of them in a row about two months into the run.
I lost two bros but I did find a unique eventually.
It was an Orc shield.

Last time I followed a rumour for a unique, I had to wade through a loving sea of brigands (including three leaders in the same battle) and the unique turned out to be a bundle of javelins.

My latest of these was a shield.

At least it was a loving baller shield with lower fatigue, 26 Melee Defense, and decent durability.

Like I wanted something cooler but if I'm going to get a shield that's fine.

The legendary orc wooden shields are great for the level of durability that they have.

The thread and elsewhere say if you pick up broken unique shields manually, you retain them after battle but I haven't had the opportunity to test this myself.

Wizard Styles

That doesn't work, or at least not reliably.
The one time I had a unique shield destroyed recently I tried to pick it up but couldn't. As in, I looked at the hex the broken shield was in and the surrounding ones and there was nothing there.

I did loot a shield at 0% durability in the past, though, so I assume there's just a small chance for broken shields to survive.

I think I just saw the bravest bandit ever. So I was doing a caravan mission when 36 bandits decided to ambush my super late game company and so our lines hit and I promptly began the slaughter. So this one bandit quickly broke and ran away into the night where all he would be able to hear is the sounds of his comrades being butchered and my guys busily comparing either kill counts or the most gruesome bandit death yet and he somehow rallies and runs back right into the fray. Of course he died quickly as well but that doesn't detract from just how brave he was. .
