It's been a while, but I think if you leave a TNG DVD on the menu, you get just the engine thrum and occasional LCARS beeps. Be sure to have a good subwoofer. It helps.

It sounds like they folded that character into Martin instead. Also reminded of the episode where Perry Cox shows up as the plumber who used to bully Niles.
