For sci-fi submarines, other than WoK, you cannot do better than: Frank Herbert's Under Pressure, which is a psychological novel set on a special ops sub on a dangerous mission late in an extended WW3. Glen Cook's Passage at Arms. Arguably Cook's best novel, this is Das Boot in space done perfectly. The tension of space combat hasn't ever been done better.

It’s just extraordinarily bad in retrospect, especially after you know literally everyone told Berman it was a horrible choice and he still insisted.

They didn't try to treat it serious, or even give some flimsy way to connect it to the main show and characters, they just let it be this fun little one off thing with its own intro and everything. Thats how the mirror universe should be treated, a fun little joke. EDIT: Though that CGI gorn was dumb as fuuuuck

Last Enterprise intro post I swear, but Jerry Goldsmith did a theme for a Disney ride in early 2001 that would have been a good fit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-3PBEAwOj4&t=13s It should start around 0:13 and it picks up around 0:39. Anything from that first minute and a half would have been great.

I think the main reason why 'In a Mirror, Darkly' works is because they actually allow the Enterprise cast to have personalities

Discovery's intro is far worse than Enterprise's. Though I guess it does fulfill the old early TNG "sonic wallpaper" musical direction.

That song is probably, somehow, a bigger impediment to my watching through Enterprise again than any other single thing. The show improves, it makes changes, it goes places, but that piece of poo poo never gets any better. Even if I skip it every time, I know it’s still there. I’ll always know.
