My pilot/upgrades binder is already ready to pop. I'm going to have to divide stuff up, especially once more factions come up.

May end up switching my dial/base binder to another system; I don't particularly like how loose the bases are in the card slots, and it will be hard to put dividers in for the dials without using way too much empty space.

It's good but it's not wildly more good than a 2 hard, to the point where you want to pay points to get it when you have the 2 hard already, and you get get two locks from long range then spend the rest of the game with rerolls.

E: though i do have an unhealthy love of collision detector. So good on Phantoms, especially when you no longer have the option to redo your decloak if you clip a rock. SO fun on Guri.

But in both cases, I find myself horribly missing the rerolls. All the mobility in the world doesn't make blank reds have paint.

I'm fine with one lock at a time, honestly. I realized that Collision Detector also lets you ignore the "skip your attack" part of asteroids, so you can park on a rock, still get your action (my personal favorite is evade with Juke), and get cover from return fire.

The list I was fiddling with included Jake, too, to spread out focuses for a fully modded joust with Juke.

I won today's launch tournament at Covenant Tulsa with a mismatched Scum swarm.

Torkil Mux: Moldy Crow and 0-0-0
Drea Renthal: Dorsal Turret and Expert Handling
L3-37: nothing
Baby Quadjumper: Tobias Beckett
Binyare Pirate: Homing Missile
Binyare Pirate: Nothing

I love this list because every single ship, except the one naked Z, is dangerous somehow beyond just its red dice. It gives other lists complete fits about target priority. I had people go after Torkil first, Drea first, and the quadjumper first. Every one of them, after the game, said their choice was the wrong move, because one of the other ships ruined their day. That's a pretty good sign.

Beckett was well worth his two points. In all of the games I was able to move a rock to clear an area where I'd have a favorable engagement, then force the engagement to happen there.

That Homing Missile Z was the star of the drat tournament. That Z shot last most turns (well, except the person who got zeroed out by Torkil), and usually his target had 1hp left. He got the finishing blow on four ships across three games.

If I were to change anything, I'd either switch Beckett and 0-0-0's ships, or I'd drop 0-0-0 entirely for a second homing missile.

I wanna run so many variations on a Drea list. I think Drea, 3 cluster Zs and a Generic firespray with 0-0-0 would be nice to try. Or maybe swapping the firespray for a tooled up Talonbane, as a flanker.

Did it matter you weren't getting any Drea benefits from L337 and Torkil?

Torkil builds up enough focuses he can just lock when he gets to combat.

If there were an Init1 generic escape craft that DIDN'T EXPLODE I would 100% be using it instead of L337, both for the re-roll and for the opportunity to coordinate my other generics before they move. However, the choice is between L3 and another Z and that coordinate is nice.

Basically, it's heavy on sharing focus and TL to allow for good action economy. Ten Numb can coordinate, thanks to Squad Leader, another ship to take an action, which stresses him. But he can then use that stress like a focus token, so he's effectively giving an action to a ship for free, as long as he has a target to shoot or is shot at. Dutch target locks himself and gives a lock to another ship. Jake can boost or barrel roll to reposition, which creates a focus for either himself or another ship. Thanks to composure and the way failed actions work, if he ends up in a spot where he can use the A-Wing ability to boost, and that boost fails, he will then get a focus token for himself. So he can say, Barrel Roll into a nice shot, pass a focus to another nearby ship with the pilot ability, attempt to boost and fail, and then gain a focus for himself from composure.

Thane is just a solid but relatively cheap I5 ace, who can effectively turn normal damage into crits, which is really good.

The Gate explained most of it. If you're curious, the Trick Shot on Dutch is there because I had a spare point, and Thane has his to maximize the use of his ability. He won't always get use out of it but if Ten is nearby, Thane can park his rear end behind a rock then BR out of it next turn with Ten's Coordinate.

Jake isn't going to light the world on fire with 2 dice base but he'll almost always be modding those dice, as well as providing Focus to someone that needs it.

Dutch is his usual support self, handing out Target Locks. He can also bring in severe damage with a combined Primary/Ion Turret shot, setting his target up for the killing blow next round.

Thane has his ability to turn over nasty crits on an enemy for basically nothing, while being in a particularly solid ship as well.

Ten can operate on his own, activating his ability with certain maneuvers if need be; otherwise he's going to be staying in range 2 of someone to give them an action, while enabling his own free dice mods.

Nothing in the list particularly stands out as the primary target while simultaneously being very dangerous if left alone. It will make target priority a living hell.

Yup. It also lets you ignore obstruction, but not them. If you get it perfect, it gets you bonus defence as well as everything else.

I expect there'll be some kind of nerf coming for this. Simply because there's so many other cool mixed swarm things to be doing but it feels like none of them really stack up to this. That said, it's got some weaknesses: high ps hotshot gunner turns off a rocket, Palob, jam actions, just sending in a bumper to wreak havoc. Actually, the main 'weakness' is probably that it's pretty boring to use when there's still so much new stuff to fly.

Have you heard the Good News?
So I've been tinkering with so much X-Wing lately (and I took a brief break to start painting up a Daqan Runewars army!) that I haven't posted much, buuuuut the FLGS is doing a launch event on this upcoming Tuesday and I'm considering what to bring. I believe I'm going to stay away from Whisper/Fel/Sai because that feels like it'd be annoying and unsatisfying to play against if you're brand new, with a ton of action economy and memorization and managing your enemy de-cloaking while you're still learning the ropes of the game; I'm thinking Luke + Wedge + Norra just for something basic? Don't know yet. Either way, the more I've played around online and in person, the more I think I actually prefer 2.0 Wave 1 Only formats to including the conversion kits, despite the fact that I really love my Empire 3-ships list (and have been winning with it very frequently). The stuff in 2.0's wave 1 feels much more tightly balanced; the stuff in conversion kits feel like it was tested less thoroughly and some guesswork was done, and some of the guesses (lots of Empire crew, Phantoms, bowtie large base ships) were wrong.

The Wave 1 only tourney format is a good way for new people to get into the game, but as new ships get released it should go away. I would be miffed if I could not use all of my ships when other could use brand new ships in new waves.

Thankfully it looks like trials and the other big events will include everything.

Got to play 3 games this weekend. I think I'm in love with that Boba/Dengar/L3 list. Gobbled up a 4 X-Wing list (3 Blue escorts with Proton Torpedoes and Thane), and also won a game against a Rebel grab bag list. It was Magva Yarro in a U-Wing with Hera, Dutch Vander with Proton Torpedoes+Saturation Salvo and Thane Kyrell. I blew the positioning on the joust of that badly, but still pulled out a win with a nearly full health Boba left vs. Thane with 2 hull. I liked the idea behind that Rebel list. The U Wing, using the title, always has a shot every round. Restricting offensive rerolls to just 1 per attack was pretty mean, and it made life much harder for me. L3 did some good work keeping Dengar in actions while still letting him bump or pull off K turns.

That list has a bit of a “house of cards” problem. A canny opponent will approach at an oblique angle or send in a speedy blocker to deny actions or arcs.

When it works it murders things. When it doesn’t...

Biggest counters to jousting lists like bombers are dedicated arc dodgers, like always.

I’ve been experimenting with Maarak with FCS, Soontir with Juke, duchess with outmaneuver, and <something>.

A nu squadron is great for getting blocks to deny those focus tokens. A Reaper isn’t as fast but can Jam their tokens away.

Move last, prioritize avoiding shots, bump them up, and generally play the long game.

No you can't. The coordinate has not failed, so it succeeded. it's perfectly clear. You chose a ship. That's your coordinate done. WHat happens now is up to it.

The list I came up with tries to get Fett super aggressive at range 1 to trigger his ability and 0-0-0 to get the calculate or if they take a stress, sets up Han to get an extra dice. If obstructed, he can get two additional dice:

Han Solo (73)
-Trick shot
-Chewbacca
-L337
-Shield Upgrade
-Landos Falcon Title

Boba Fett (95)
-Fearless
-0-0-0
-Marauder Title
-Dengar

-Lando (26)

I may change 0-0-0 and L337. Put 0-0-0 on Han and L337 on Fett.
