I just got to the bonus levels in Captain Toad and it just reminded me that Super Mario Odyssey is probably one of my favorite games of all time. Maybe it has something to do with the last Mario game I played before that being 64, but I just heard this theme again and I got a little emotional all over again :unsmith:

In the Y6 demo they open with the ending of 5 where Haruka announces she’s quitting her singing career and professing how proud she is of her ex-yakuza dad. It sounds like that’s what sets off the events in 6. Is there a lot more that you need to know going into 6?

I guess not? But skipping an entire game's worth of story and content just because "I don't like this one side activity that can totally be ignored" is bonkers to me. Yakuza 5 is great!

I'm hoping today goes by smoothly and as always I am already looking to go home and I've been at work for 17 minutes. Plus I am wearing new boots and they're killing my feet something fierce.

Do you need to get some special insoles for the boots until they're properly broken in?

I have flat rear end feet and I have a pair of inserts that give my foot more of an arch, in addition to the normal impact gel inserts. Right now it's just a matter of breaking in the leather so they're more flexible in the future and the only way I can do that is to wear them.

I feel you. I got some gorgeous new Converse last week but they squish my toes so bad. I had to bring some tatty trainers into work as well for a changeover

:( I'm sorry to hear about your flat feet. What exactly happens with it that is so painful? Is it because the pressure is being put down on the entire foot instead of just the front and back? Is there any way to fix your feet or are you just stuck with special shoes/special inserts?

My tired after work game (FFXIV) is not available this evening since tomorrow is patch day.

I'll probably just play more DQXI. I've been trying ou5 various 4x games to have something casual to play while watching tv but not of them grab my internet anymore and I haven't quite pinpointed why yet.

Think of it like a bridge with arched supports versus straight ones. One is going to last far longer than the other due to how they're designed.

Monster Hunter GU on Switch is my new tired after work game. Not to fight crazy monsters but to do some necessary item collection and crafting as a cat. Spend the week nights watching a bit of Netflix and gathering, then hopefully when I'm rested on the weekend I get some spare time and I'll be ready to rock and roll against the big mons.

Collecting in that game is quite Zen, isn't it? I like to bring my Switch in with me when I'm cooking dinner and grab some herbs when I have breaks in prepping food.

DQXI is a good "I'm tired and just want to chill for a bit" game.

I used to play Civ V a lot for that kind of thing but like you, that whole genre just isn't grabbing me like it used to. I go through phases with video game interests, though, so it's probably just that, at least for me. I'm sure I'll come back around on them eventually.

better support in the center

go around with flat feet too long and the foot's muscular-skeletal structure begins to collapse

Basically what you said before. Arches cause pressure to be distributed to the outside instead of focused in the center. The other thing is downward pressure on the center of a flat structure will cause the outside edges to want to move inward which can also cause long-term damage.

This is all from my extremely layman's knowledge of how these things work so someone else could probably explain better.

Basically, yes. When I step down instead of my foot naturally arching and creating support it just flattens out. There are hard inserts that help create some arch which helps, most of the pain at the moment is from the tightness of the new leather which will eventually fade as the boot breaks in. But it also means that most of the shoes I wear will have extra stress on their outside edge because of how my foot flattens when I step down and that's where they eventually wear out and break. I was born with flat feet, my parents tried going to a specialist when I was an infant and putting braces on my feet which in theory would have bent my feet and shaped them to have an arch but apparently I was always able to get the braces off somehow so they gave up. I've never gone to a podiatrist to get a professional opinion as an adult, it's something I've grown used to.

Foot talk itt.

Yeah DQ and MHGU will cover me - I haven't gotten to play as much of the latter as if like yet, so I'm early enough on for that its all pretty chill.

I think part of what's turned me off of Civ and other similar 4x games is having played Paradox mapgames - I really like that they have a worlds worth of stuff ticking away in the background and things happen no matter what you do. Plus, since the games are sandboxy, the AI is free to do things and have things done to it that are interesting instead of in Civ where the AI players are buttoned down to make sure then player can't take advantage (not that they always succeed mind you.)

Great to hear. I felt like I was close to getting some new faces, but I was so exhausted last night that I fell asleep exploring the town. I'm grateful that DQXI autosaves because while I have a habit of dozing while I play a game (as a few people who I've been on voice chat with may attest to) I don't like artificially inflating my play clock. So when I rack up a few hours while I catch some Zs I like having the ability to jump back to the last major area transition I went through to get my clock back to a reasonable time.

I kinda wonder why they didn't just hire an American actor to play Erik. It's not like English actors can't do good American accents--many of them can--but Erik's sure can't.
