my entire TA-50 gear was stolen when I deployed to Iraq. They had moved all of our poo poo out of these lovely high school gym type lockers into actual gear lockers during my time. All of my poo poo was stolen as they literally CUT EVERYONE'S locker who was deployed and hoped that they had labeled their poo poo. I think I was one of maybe 40 guys who had their poo poo stolen or just turned back in. They FLIPL'd all of my poo poo but only after I literally hounded them for the 4 years I had left on my contract, until the day came when I went to CIF for the kansas guard that they covered it. However, I was missing one canteen and a canteen pouch or some poo poo. They went over 5 times how I would have it taken out of my taxes or some poo poo. Far as I know they haven't touched my precious bennies.... So win for me I guess against big armies

I was a pay officer with literal millions of dollars in a giant safe in Iraq. I had an armed squad escort me all over the place too. At the end of that tour, turning in the money, I had 6 dollars more than my receipts said I should have. The army civilians made it a big loving deal for no discernable reason.

mods changed my name posted:Man, when people in the army thought they had any sort of real sway over civilian poo poo I wanted to go nuts. drat skippy dude. My current supervisor is one of the rare people who will actually wait for his truck. We had this truck at my last place we called Shipwreck. It was this ancient Ford that just would not die. The original cushions had gotten so mangled that SOP was to put your gear bag in the frame of the seat and ride on that. The vehicle was pretty underpowered to begin with before they dumped 2 tons of a truck bed that looked like they had gotten someone's cousin to put together on it. Consequently it would top out at 62 MPH. So of course, every time we rode in the drat thing, the C1 would just go hauling rear end down the road, 80 MPH, in a loving 6 ton CCV. The one time a C1 stopped to wait for us was to yell at the driver for not keeping up with the CCV. The dude driving had gotten kicked out of the Army for coke so, being a protected class, straight up told the C1 to stop driving like an rear end in a top hat. Welp thats my story gently caress this place

I took over my platoon in theater after one of the PLs got relieved. Needless to say, some of the stuff there and some was back in the states. Having paid attention in OCS and IOBC to the property class I told my CO I wouldn't sign for stuff I couldn't look at. "LT I'll tell you how this is going work, you're going to loving sign those loving hand receipts. Is that clear?" When it was time for me change over about $1000 worth of stuff was missing. I found out that day my platoon liked me because when the word got out stuff started appearing throughout the day and I was told not to ask where it came from. They got it down to like $200.

All these end of fiscal year funding issues obviously happens every year so why the gently caress are major training events constantly scheduled at the end of the fiscal year. May as well just block off September 20th through October 20th as off limits to training because paying for poo poo turns into a giant pain in the rear end. The field grades tossing this poo poo on the calendar every year have like 15 years in the Army so this can't be new....so....why? Their 1LT S4s can't just conjure money out of thin air.

Has the training each year been cancelled or otherwise non-conducted due to funding? No? That’s why it’s still on the calendar.

It's not too bad when you have a good NCOIC that can handle the day to day stuff like processing FLIPLS and making sure the supply rooms are squared away with GCSSA and whatnot. It's definitely the biggest learning experience I've ever had, changed the way I look at problems and interact with people. Having an awful BN XO and S4 NCOIC will turn you into an alcoholic though.

A ton of info about the new PT test (including the FM, training guide, equipment list, and an FAQ) just hit. PM me your email address if you want it. Edit: Couple highlights from reading this morning: 1) The test instructions basically involve saying "you've had 48 hours to review the events and standards. Any questions?" 2) Someone's gonna get the title "ball retriever". Can't wait to put that on my eval. 3) if you step over the line on the throw, you mark it zero! So, the hex-deadlift is more of a squat, isn't it? The justifications for the PT events are the best:" "1. Deadlift. The MDL is a strong predictor of a Soldier’s ability to lift and carry a casualty on a litter, and to lift and move personnel and equipment. 2. Kettle Ball throw. These tasks include executing a buddy drag to pull an injured person to a safe location, throwing equipment onto or over an obstacle, throwing a hand grenade, assisting a buddy to climb up a wall, lifting and loading equipment, and employing progressive levels of force in man-to-man contact. 3. Push up. The HRP tests a Soldier’s ability to push an opponent away during man-to-man contact, push a disabled vehicle, and push up from the ground during evasion andmaneuver. It also engages upper back muscles used when reaching out from the prone position when shooting, taking cover, or low crawling. 4. Sprint, Drag, Carry. This capacity contributes to a Soldier’s ability to react quickly to direct and indirect fire, build a hasty fighting position, and extract a casualty from a vehicle and carry them to safety. 5. Leg Tuck (LTK) has great occupational relevance and tests a Soldier’s muscular strength and endurance. LTKassesses grip strength, shoulder adduction and flexion, elbow flexion, and trunk and hip flexion. These movements assist Soldiersin all climbing tasks and in surmounting obstacleslike a vertical wall, or climbing onto a shelf or up a rope. This 6. 2 Mile Run (2MR) is a test of aerobic endurance. It applies to common Soldier tasks such as dismounted movement, ruck marching, and infiltration." I like how they completely half-assed the justification for the 2 mile run. You know it's in there just because it always has been. SimonCat fucked around with this message at 01:17 on Sep 18, 2018 |

Hex Bar Deadlift is actually a lot safer because the weight is distributed closer to your base than in front of it like a traditional barbell deadlift. It forces you to contract your glutes and hamstrings instead of your your spinal extensors like bad from can with a traditional deadlift. So you end up pulling straight up instead of back and up. It’s one of the few smart things about the change to the new APFT, people are still going to throw their back out, but just less total.

The other slide deck I have from earlier this year still has references to a 1.5m run (and this test at the back), but that would've made too much sense.

SimonCat posted:Those are the muscles associated with squats, deadlift is supposed to be a back exercise. Squats are glutes, hamstrings, and quads predominately. A proper form deadlift enacts your glutes and hamstrings along with your abdominals, traps, and ton of extra supporting muscles. I’m saying the hex forces proper form since a lot of people curve their back and enact their lower back muscles, which are supposed to be rigid throughout the motion. Most people pop their rear end out first then lift with their back instead of pushing their hips through.

And I understand that, as a massive beaurocracy, there as to be some kind of measurement tool for a minimum standard. I just think there has to be a better way. Our physical fitness is a mess. I got my permanent profile when I was 26 for a couple of herniated discs. I've never been in better shape in my life than when I started doing PT on my own. And I have no herniated, or even bulging, discs anymore. spacetoaster fucked around with this message at 04:03 on Sep 18, 2018 |

So in the same week I found out that I am getting replaced by a senior CPT as the S4, I’m deploying to HOA in fy 19 as the Hq(-) 4 and that deploying won’t help me complete my CAQC or CCC beforehand. I remember hearing that deploying troops can bump people from seats, but I can’t get a seat at LOG CC at all now. 😂 oh well. Anyone who’s went to HOA know how hard it will be to get internet so I can get my M.S.? Also the CAQC pipeline sucks. Phase 3 is a 6 month online course, and they wonder why there are so few MOSQ 38A CPTs....
