Heck, I want to give it money just so Cosmatos can make more movies. He seems like someone that has a vision that really appeals to me but still needs some gestation to be truly great. Though the potential is so loving there. You can rent the movie right now for $6 on Amazon. I would recommend doing that and not reading anything else about the movie until you've seen it. This is a movie that benefits from a blind first watch.

I'd like to think it's the same poo poo the weirdo scientists in Beyond the Black Rainbow were dosing with since it triggers the same insane melting skull visuals in both movies and it's set in the same year. Wonder if his hair falls out eventually.

Maybe watch like ten seconds so you don't ruin a few things. You'll either be all about the aesthetic or not right away anyway. I literally bought this movie on the train back from the theater so I can watch it 20 more times until the Bluray drops.

I saw this movie over the weekend. Unlike a lot of you I thought the soundtrack hurt the movie by making it feel even more deliberate than it already was . Starting with King Crimson was great and got things off on the right foot but too much of the movie was just set to this grinding distorted guitar that, at least in the theatre I was in, was so loud it was physically uncomfortable and made a lot of the already long scenes interminable. I still liked the movie but i think trimming a bit from the beginning and changing out some of the music for more trippy prog rock would immensely improve it. Seeing it in a theatre full of awful hipsters there to watch it ironically also didn’t help - including someone near me who was the garliciest human being I have ever had the misfortune of sitting near.

The only thing I don't like about the soundtrack is that it doesn't have Sand's cheesy flower power ballad on it.

I wanna see this again in a theater so bad but I know I'll never catch an audience that won't laugh through it thanks to cage rage. The only plus is the hearty laughter died halfway into the vodka scene and it just became this kind of nervous laughter instead. Like yeah, the movie knows it's ridiculous but it's not the room for fucks sake. e: my only criticism tbh is the animation segments felt kinda lovely compared to everything else, but it's barely in the movie. It looked like a really low budget "heavy metal" and not in a positive way. e2: can someone give this dude the hellraiser franchise? i'd watch the gently caress out of a cosmatos pinhead movie zer0spunk fucked around with this message at 22:47 on Sep 18, 2018 |

The animation sequences are kind of interesting because they suggest that Red feels ambivalent about or even afraid of Mandy, which adds some interesting (if not very thoroughly explored) texture to the whole revenge-rampage.

Minor updates on The Beast: 20 minutes of dicking around in TinkerCad means I kinda know how to taper things off? I also have the template printed and it's now dawning on me how loving big this thing is I can't promise it'll look anything close to the movie's version (if I even finish it) but I'm having fun

Origami Dali posted:The chainsaw gag is straight out of Phantasm II. Another one is Mad Max, when she's walking around the woods in the beginning of the movie and sees and sees the dead animal killed by a biker gang. At that point in the movie we take it to mean like some supernatural poo poo is going down but later Bill Duke explains how the Black Skulls (those three bikers) go around gutting animals and stuff. She's drawn to the sound because it sounds like a wolf howl at first but then sounds weird and demonic, and we think it might be too because of where the movie is at that point, but it was one of the bikers howling.

In my mind its like a fever dream of all the dumb poo poo conservatives feared and believed were real in the 1980's: -Evil human-sacrificing sex cult hanging out in the forest? Check -Drugs turning you into a deranged psychopath? Check -Playing Dungeons and Dragons turns you evil? Check (don't try and tell me the Horn of Abraxis and The Dagger of the Pale Knight aren't some nerd D&D poo poo) -Rock and Roll dude literally brainwashing people? Check All it needs is homophobia and that was probably in there somewhere and I missed it.

When I was watching the film, I assumed the Jar given to the bikers was blood. Probably it was just the lighting, but it looked darker and less viscous than the lcd hoard. Plus, I thought the bikers' request for blood was worded like they were seeking more blood (though I may have just heard what I wanted to hear).Class Warcraft posted:In my mind its like a fever dream of all the dumb poo poo conservatives feared and believed were real in the 1980's: Actually I think the movie is distinctly trying to take the opposite approach. Our heroes are two honest people sure. But one of the introductory scenes is of Cage deliberately turning off a Reagan speech, and of the two sitting around watching a horror movie. Not to mention the metal t-shirts and fantasy artwork belonging to Mandy. Meanwhile the cult is a bunch of christians deliberately undermining Christ's teachings for personal profit/pleasure. In conclusion, Jesus Freaks are a land of contrasts.

Rewatched... The shot of her in the forest walking before it becomes blood moon red feels like a direct homage to antichrist. There's a scene where they track charlotte gainsbourg through the forest in slow motion..also a long tracking shot that's side profile...Antichrist is somehow even moodier in the lighting, but they felt so similar. Also noticed during the 5$ tomato scene the witch lookin' cult member is holding a box of Goblin.

Saw this at Drafthouse last night, complete sensory overload and I loved it. One of the best pure film experiences in the last few years for me, just a total aesthetic feast. It was definitely one of those things where I felt this could only be told and created in this medium. I'm surprised and pleased this got as many positive reviews as it did though I suspect audience reviews will be more mixed. The scene in the bathroom at first got some small laughs which turned to stunned silence as it dragged on, and then the theater got extremely quiet. After that the only reactions were for the neck snap and the "that was my FAVORITE SHIRT" . This is tied with Hereditary for my favorite movie this year, though I haven't seen Sorry To Bother You/You Were Never Really Here yet. Was it just me or was there some kind of overarching theme of a pornographic view of violence going on? From the start when the radio mentions it briefly to the laughing throatslash of that spiked gang member bleeding all over Red while a porno plays behind him, to the slightly orgasmic release he gets when he squashes Jeremiah's head at the end along with the gushing eyeball death? Even the Cheddar Goblin thing vomiting cheese everywhere kind of gave off the same vibe. Probably just me but it was interesting to think about how that feeling is weaponized against a dude who, for all intents and purposes, is playing a DnD villain with silly names for knives and gods when all he really wants to do is gently caress concubines.
