If Foggy isn't tight with Murdock again, I don't think DD3 is going to be that bearable. They really need those characters playing off each other.

It's like how thanks to the new Spider-Man game people go on about how Spidey would pop Doctor Octopus' head like a grape once he got past all the metal arms and it's like yes, we have known this since 1963. We don't care because it's entertaining and why put impediments to your fun in the way?

But don't you see, obviously what plagues this show about a man with power derived by slaying a dragon (but which is transferable with the right pottery and group of Suicide Girl tattoo artists) is its lazy and unrealistic representation of bionics.

Seems like it. The end credits scene or w/e in Defenders was basically just a shot from Born Again iirc, and I think they've been hinting at or outright stated they'll be taking inspiration from that storyline since.

Oh, and speaking of Iron Fist, I finally got around to watching LC and IF seasons 2 a few weeks back.

Luke Cage was better than expected. It was a noticeably tighter story than S1, and didn't suffer from the same villain degradation over the back half. Bushmaster made for a compelling presence. I could listen to him talk in that Jamaican patois for hours. Overall, my favorite Netflix Marvel season after Punisher and DD 1/2.

Iron Fist improved significantly from S1 to S2, but that is more a testament to the depths of S1 than the heights of S2. The largest single contributor to this, IMO, was simply greater focus. S1 had so much disparate poo poo going on, so many unrelated threads, it was a mess before any Finn Jones even happened. S2 manages to stick to like three threads, trim a few episodes, and comes out incomparably better for it. That said, Danny continues to mostly suck. He is completely unbelievable as Iron Fist, and I mean that from both the acting/portrayal perspective, as well as the in-universe character perspective. Danny Rand's Iron Fist is borderline Wimp Lo/"we taught him wrong as a joke" territory (which IIRC is a point someone made way back during S1). Colleen was cool, although I thought her whole "If I train you, our relationship will irrevocably change" bit an exceedingly contrived mechanism to wedge them apart. Misty was cool. I look forward to her being more comfortable wrecking poo poo with her new arm. Ward absolutely stole the show this time around. In a story not centrally about him, I felt he nevertheless carried parts of the season and even somehow made Finn's Danny Rand bearable when they were on screen together. drat. I would watch a show where Ward Meachum and Bushmaster just sit over hot beverages and discuss their life experiences for 40 minutes straight. "What's your name?" "Dem call me Bushmasta'." "Yeah? Well, 'dem call me' a depressed sack of poo poo. I guess when they're right, they're right." And on and on.

There may be a trend here where the shows have been lacking strong characters/actors to steal your attention away from the otherwise soap opera content.

I mean, there are tons of issues, but even bad movies with a charismatic distraction usually end up cult favorites.

Maybe the priest he hangs out with that serves as his confessional sounding board? At first I thought they were going full into the Born Again story so I was assuming the lady he's cooking dinner with was the nun/totally not his mom, but if they're only using some of the visuals and none of the story beats then I'm probably mistaken. It could be her as well, if he's crashing with her after she nurses him back to health.

How long do you think he stays in the black suit? I wonder if they get the whole "sup Foggy and Karen, I'm not dead" thing out of the way quickly or if Matt just decides to be a dick and hide from them for half the season.

We probably will get some sort of costume for him, the Netflix stuff has generally steered away from costumes if they're silly (not seen JJ or Iron Fist S2 so maybe different in those) but Bullseye has a pretty basic costume that makes some sense for an assassin with a bit of flair.

Looked like a "Matt is talking to the priest scene" to me or it could be an early scene with his mother maybe.

Wonder where Bullseye got the costume? In the 1st season Matt got it made special by Melvin Potter. Anyone know if Punisher is in this at all?

hatelull
Oct 29, 2004

Did Jessica Jones ever really wear a costume in the comics? They made some cheeky references to the classic Iron Fist costume in S2, but they definitely never put Danny in a green and yellow jumpsuit. The most he gets is a hoodie with the accent colors. Probably for the best. It's not like he has an identity to hide since he tells everyone he meets that he's the Immortal Iron Fist.

BiggerBoat posted:

I'll speculate that they're riffing on one of the Born Again story beats, and either Kingpin has Potter make it for him or Kingpin just has Bullseye steal it from Matt. Kingpin is aware Murdock is DD from S1, yeah?
