Egalitarian is pretty good and a close second, but my heart belongs to Xenophile. I find "We have declared war, because some people have to learn the hard way" to be the best line, but the general peppiness about everything is nice. I do wish that advisor had more voice lines, though, there's only one for each situation and that's just not enough variety. Hell, more voice lines for the advisors it has in general would work just fine.

Unless I'm mad, wouldn't a ringworld along the earth's orbital path and rotating at the earth's orbital velocity, not be under stress?

Like, if you put a bunch of extra earths along the earth's orbital path and then tethered them together.

Earth's orbital speed isn't constant, as it's not in a circular orbit - and while your ringworld (being a circle!) wants to be in a circular orbit, all the individual bits of it don't want to be because circular orbits are unstable. Viz, any interaction on any given piece of it aside from the precise force required to keep that piece in a circular orbit will want to kick it into an elliptical one.

Homeworld's use of coms chatter was really insane for its era. I'd say it's top tier, maybe the best use ever. They made it sound like that because it simultaneously perfectly fit the setting and also drastically reduced the amount of disk space the files took up.

According to a reply to the tweet about trade routes "you will have control over them."

Doesn't say if they can or cannot be automated, but if I can deal with personally setting up every trade route in a Civ and Anno game I can deal with ot here, too.

In fact I'd probably prefer it so it doesn't start setting up stupid routes.

I imagine that planets will have some kind of upkeep and it’s inefficient to produce everything on site. So the control aspect is deciding what a planet imports and exports. An agriculture world would need to import luxuries and basic industrial goods to run smoothly while exporting food.

I imagine that new colonies will also have a significant upkeep cost in goods sourced from other planets until they become more self sufficient. I expect to see the energy credit upkeep of an establishing colony replaced with an imports requirement.

I wonder if an interesting small DLC would be to allow a start as a pre-hyperspace civilization? To offset being locked-out of the regular game for the first hundred years, it'd be focused heavily on unique event chains to give you stuff to do in your one solar system, as well as some unique buildings and projects to build that concentrate on terraforming/improving your starter world. The projects would have a theme of a civilization transitioning to Kardashev level I - so various planetary-scale megaprojects, like developing fusion power, draining oceans, building arcologies, establishing a post-scarcity economy, and so on. It'd be interesting to cover that period of history, I don't think I know of a game besides the Call to Power series that ever covered that transition.

There's a mod that kind of does this, but it ends up being like you said, where you're at like 2278 and you finally get your first FTL tech. It wasn't very fun. I'm not sure how this game would handle quite what you are describing on the planetary front though. But planetary megaprojects beyond straight up terraforming could be interesting.

Golden ring is luxury goods, iirc, while these are silver rings. Although a few weeks ago the "trade value" symbol was a blue lightning bolt, so who the gently caress knows what any symbols mean this is a half-done dev build and they're constantly in flux/placeholders/etc.
