The intro to the Lilys song "There's No Such Thing as Black Orchids" is a ripoff of an 80s goth song, but I can't figure out which one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-7FuZB8JQw It's driving me mad.

Supposedly a drone metal song, wherein the lyrics were recorded by the claustrophobic singer who was buried alive in a coffin with a microphone. Extremely skeptical that this exists, dude insists he listened to it with a 103 degree fever and it gave him the worst fever-dreams of his life, but he can't remember the name

The Chad Jihad posted:Supposedly a drone metal song, wherein the lyrics were recorded by the claustrophobic singer who was buried alive in a coffin with a microphone. https://www.google.ca/search?source.....0.aCkmlnk_9lE I googled the stuff about the coffin and got this. Clicked first link, Ctrl+F coffin, annnnndddd.... quote:Still, this album has some genuinely epic moments. "It Took the Night To Believe", despite being less than six minutes long, is absolutely perfect in its presentation, staying instrumental for just long enough to make an atmosphere before introducing the vocals to amplify the experience. It has a perfectly-thought out riff, which it develops with ambient noises throughout the song. "Orthodox Caveman" also has a very excellent main riff, which isn't developed at all throughout the track but it still serves the purpose of a good ambient song. The instrument in the beginning of "CandleGoat", whatever it is, is very beautiful, which is a quality not often seen on this album. And finally, the track "Báthory Erzsébet", excluding the seven minute bell solo, is another perfect song. With all the shrill pitches of the guitar in between the droning sludge, mixed with the screams of Malefic inside a coffin, it's probably the song on the album most likely to make you do double takes behind you while you listen to it. This has been bugging me for ages and the song wasn't even good. The band is probably British. They had one single that had a music video shown in the early 2000s on the alternative music channels. The band name or song title maybe had "ice" somewhere in it. The video had a lot of colourful triangles, pink and yellow? I associate it with Crystal Castles, it wasn't them but probably around the same time. It was an awful electro-emo song I think. Like Enter Shikari or other similar mid-2000s things. Either the band or the song was something Ice. It's been eating at me, I can't find it. eating only apples fucked around with this message at 23:58 on Sep 7, 2018 |

First ones that come to mind are Arthur Conley's Sweet Soul Music, which is entirely about other artists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp3JOzcpBds As was Peter, Paul and Mary's I Dig Rock and Roll Music, but... less complimentary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rOTKeoAs7M The Righteous Brothers' Rock and Roll Heaven is a big list of dead musicians. Bonus points for this slowed down, extremely corny in memoriam version done on American Bandstand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjQPX_aOYj0 There's other smaller examples, like Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water mentioning Frank Zappa and the Mothers, or Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama mentioning Neil Young (as it was written in response to Young's Southern Man and Alabama).

T. Rex - Telegram Sam. "Bobby" is Bob Dylan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-hSB35E_gk "I'm still thinking of Little Queenie" in the outro to Get It On is in reference to Chuck Berry. Beach Boys - Do You Remember. Loaded with references, but obviously a filler song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEZbsF1jSIQ And a callout(!) at the end of Surfers Rule to the Four Seasons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV6TR7YbGmM Yes got in John Lennon references in I've Seen All Good People ("send an instant karma to me" and "give peace a chance")

This is a song I heard playing at a supermarket, and I couldn't really get much of it. It had a driving beat and kind of a Celtic/Irish folk sound. The singer sounded female. I think the lyrics may have mentioned '64' at some point. And possibly '59' but I'm less confident about that. There may have been something about time in there, maybe 'when this happens' or 'the morning'.

No, not that one (which I'd recognize, if not necessarily by name). It's kind of the right style, though. The vocals were not as strong or clear, but it did have the kind of full arrangement. Thinking on it, it almost made me think of the verses in Queen's '39 (but less jangly).
