war with iran but with private child armies

This is only tangentially related because they're children in militarized police forces but I thought I'd post it again anyway

https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/1862/text - Ctrl+F to Child Soldier Prevention Act

Entities of the Government of Afghanistan, particularly the Afghan Local Police and the Afghan National Police, continue to recruit children to serve as combatants or as servants, including as sex slaves. Police forces of the Government of Afghanistan participate in counterterrorism operations, direct and indirect combat, and security operations, fight alongside regular armies, and are targeted for violence by the Taliban and by other opposition groups. In February 2016, a 10-year-old boy was assassinated by the Taliban after he had been publically honored by Afghan local police forces for his assistance in combat operations against the Taliban.

Sen. Corker, Sen. Rubio, Sen. Menendez, and Sen. Cardin briefly noticed this by introducing a bill with these words in its "findings" section. Shortly afterward, the sentiment got sucked up into the gaping maw of the beast with the green back and it was never heard from again.

Edit: The bill extends the ban on the use of children in Afghanistan government armed forces to include a ban on children in police forces. It also changes "recruit and use" to "recruit or use". I'm guessing they lawyer that it's all right if they split recruitment and use across two organizations and then refer those recruited for child soldiering or sex slavery afterward.

i didnt see your edit to the twityer search or the flood of bernie merch earlier. but yeah, the tweets show a shitload of stuff he was selling. but i mean, selling $30 t-shirts is how a popular movement small-donor presidential campaign raises money. bernie is one of only three presidential candidates in my lifetime that people actually wanted their poo poo and would throw in another $30 donation for a random t-shirt or hat or bumper sticker (the other 2 of course being obama and trump). i bought a bernie shirt and a bernie mug in 2016 and it was the first piece of political campaign merch i bought since an obama thing in 2008

the 2018 version of the candidates' merchandise, six months before both bernie and warren declare their presidential campaigns and both ramp up the merchandising like crazy because neither of them are going to be getting donations of 100 separate bundled $5400 donations like biden and harris will, are very different and the stark contrast is not what i expected even a few hours ago prior to the warren tweet. i would have expected warren to have some "end too big to fail" thing or something

in 2020 of course all of the dem candidates are going to be selling lgbtq+ philisophy major soccer moms for (candidate) bumper stickers

Maybe this is the Masshole in me talking but sometimes I feel weirdly bad for Warren. Her big single progressive issue (banks / consumer protection) is the one the establishment Dems want absolutely nothing to do with. Bernie has easily out-maneuvered her on the left. Five years ago she was the progressive darling when she won her senate seat, and I think she'd have won the nom over HRC in 2016 assuming Bernie stayed out with her in. I'm not convinced she has any presidential aspirations, but the window is fully closed already.

because access is a currency in DC, and it sounds like you're doing the benevolent thing when you give someone access to healthcare, and the Big Health donors know that just means a shitload more customers they can try to not provide coverage for. Saying "universal healthcare" means that there's a limit on profits or putting a government obstacle between people seeking healthcare service and their business model.

It's a signal to the donors and the health insurance companies that they're not going to hurt their bottom line.

I don't think the porn star trying to describe a person's dick in an unflattering manner was trying to suggest "stout and girthy" when she compared it to Toad

I mean, she's comparing "short and wide" vs "tall and wide" at that point. Exactly because of her experience I'd expect her to care more about aesthetics.

Alternately, "red dots all over the tip". Can I change my answer to "lol red dots all over the tip"?

I know this is a trollpost but I actually think it was intensely political, just in a very subtle, vague, and symbolic sense

All of these people know that there is something fundamentally wrong with our country, that it is not as good as it could be, and they've come, to our anti-establishment change candidate, seeking a solution -- they've all gone to look for America

The message is that Bernie recognizes the issues with the status quo and anyone who is still experiencing problems despite Obama's golden age should flock to him. It's definitely a vague, broad message, but it's there

comedyblissoption
Mar 15, 2006

nah i'm not trolling i legit hated it

anyone unfamiliar with bernie would just see it as a vapid commercial in a sea of political pablum

you could switch bernie for any empty suit in that commercial for how much political content it had

it's the political equivalent of marketing brands of toothpaste
