Yeah from what we've seen the last few decades, there is no such thing as public shaming any more. Any publicity is good publicity. I remember Oprah telling a story about how back in the 90's she brought some white supremacists on her show in the hopes of being able to kind of expose them. Halfway through, she had this moment of "what the gently caress have I done" when she realized that there were white supremacists in the audience cheering on the kkk dudes, and that essentially what she had done was just give them a platform to spread their vile views. It wasn't like they could bring about this light bulb moment where everyone realized that there wasn't any basis to white supremacy. That's not how those sorts of worldviews work. All you can do to combat them is marginalize them as much as possible.

Worth mentioning too that a lot of people who really talk up allowing platforms for conspiracy theorists and racists would probably look at late 1920's Germany and say that it was a good example of the system working. The Nazis were allowed a platform and yet they were losing in the court of public opinion.
