Something like seventy spins in (why is it so slow), I watched the ball bounce out of the treasure space and into a nearby one, and then watched the jackpot arrow point at the treasure space. I haven't won either prize yet.

If you go to Insula Incognita in the southwest during part 1, you can see the island has two main areas, one of which is inhabited by trolls and one by cyclopses. If you return there in part 2, the trolls and cyclopses are together in one area, and a new, even larger enemy, night clubbers, are living in the other area. That's storytelling.

anyway an enemy in the area right after did 60dmg with his standard attack so this is not letting up anytime soon

was trying autobattle a lot in the last dungeon. it gets the job done, and the AI is pretty smart about when to heal and when to do AoEs etc., but occasionally they make moves that are total nonsense, like erik using the sleepcrit on nonsleeping enemies, and I dont think they will coordinate things like lowering resists for a finisher etc. its basically for when you wanna do some grinding by a campfire while you eat a sandwich lol

I had an issue with this with a boss where Erik would put it to sleep and then someone would immediately attack it and wake it up.

The quests in this aren’t nearly as bad as a lot of them in DQIX

like, “put up a wizard ward and use that same party member to kill a metal Slime”

thats becasue dq9 was a weird storyless game with bad procedural [?]quests and most of the cool stuff was designed around living in a country where half the population can go to shibuya on a sunday and 50 million ppl could all do the weird multiplayer stuff over streetpass

i might not be far enough, but i haven't run into any that require you to make the last hit with a pep power

otherwise i've just been sidelining them and then doing normal game progression. you can bench a character and they retain pep, so i figure out who i need for the power, bench characters as they gain pep, and then put the full team together for the coup de grace once it's ready. every character is so good that individual party composition doesn't matter a whole lot outside of hard mode

you start seeing some in the late game, and then a few more in the post game. The one i'm working on rn involves killing two minibosses with the same pep power, but the pep power only targets one enemy, so i have the option of grinding out a pep pip so i can get a second immediate shot at killing the other mob or just treading water till the character re-peps, and this is on top of the fact that apparently the pep can just like, miss? Its possibly the worst thing the game has done to me and there's really crucial poo poo locked behind it and its getting frustrating since i really want to see all the end game content

huh, i'm way over that. ended at level 50, but also gained about five levels in the dungeon since there are a number of large XP bosses and also a few great metal slime opportunities that i beat because, well, when faced with a metal slime i will never not try to kill it.

I thought 9 looked fine, even good. I liked how armor was visible and stuff.

I finally made the big swap into greatswords for my MC, mostly because I realized Erik gets way more dmg+ passives in his sword tree and my autism prevents me from having 2 characters use the same weapon type.

well it probably pushed the DS to its absolute limits to produce this for sure

but i would've preferred good spritework 1000x over blocky 3d. DS was one of the last systems to have some really great looking 2d games, including the gorgeous dq5 remake

customizing your crew at inns was cool though, always rolled with a high dmg warrior and 2 casters

There’s just a couple of scenes and different dialogue, I only saw the puerto Valor one too but I’m hoping that Yggdrasil root in the academy might play the other cutscenes? Haven’t checked it yet though. I read somewhere they are longer voiced versions of some of the scenes shown in the credits

You're right and even though I knew that it only just sunk in how nuts that is. This game has awesome VA and cutscenes, it feels so bizarre that is only for the west's benefit.
