I'm getting quite a bit of chromatic aberration around the FOV periphery in my Odyssey and there are rather distracting orange/purple borders. Obviously such issues are inevitable with these lenses but I remember reading that this is supposedly corrected for in software. Is it configurable somewhere, or is it up for the devs to implement it individually?

I don't know the first thing about making maps, but I know that the user maps where you are basically standing in place and drumming get instantly deleted by me. You don't have to go crazy, but movement is essential IMO.

My Steam community name is Taintrunner so feel free to add me there and shoot me a message in chat, or DM me through the VR Goons discord. I recently cleared out most of the room in my home office for having space to punch things in VR, so I feel a lot more comfortable playing more physical games like Creed and GORN.

Check pretty much everything that Rustic makes, he has straightforward mappings that balance a good amount of notes, the songs beat, and good movement around the platform. They work great for your traditional two saber modes as well as my favorite Darth Maul mode.
Here are my favorites of his from my YouTube channel that shows how they make you move around the platform.

Believer by Imagine Dragons
https://youth.be/XVhj0yRoLhw

Gravity by Tut Tut Child
https://youtu.be/b3J4tKalrZ0

Feel Invincible by Skillet
https://youtu.be/7pkS2cxny0s

He also did an amazing collaboration with BennyDaBeast and GreatYazer for “We Built This City” which you should check out.

For me, I think the things that promote movement across the platform in the best ways are restrained usage of walls along with a judicious block count. If you throw too many blocks at people they just stand still and wail away on them instead of getting into a groove and following along the map.

As someone working on one, myself, try not to go overboard on notes/walls. Don't try to map literally every beat, either, give the player a small chance to recover from any intense sections.

Walls are great, just don't put notes immediately after them where the player can't see them until IMMEDIATELY after the wall ends.

Try not to place too many successive notes in front of the player's face, and what you do place make them either dots or a predictable pattern, like upswing-downswing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYbDcwgr_cI&t=186s This is kinda what I mean, sure it makes sense, you're "clapping" your hands, but still! This same map goes overboard on the wall size in my opinion by making you go ALL the way left/right, as in edge of your play area left/right. That's probably just a me problem though.

Also don't hide mines in the walls. That's lovely.

This is on me, I'm really bad at explaining stuff sometimes, so here's a little more info with help from Thrill of the Fight:

This is the default grip, the tops face forward and your index fingers rest on the trigger.

This what I was asking about : the Turn In grip, the tops face in toward each other, your thumb rests on the trigger. This is my preferred grip, I use it for this game and in Knockout League, and find it more comfortable than the default.

I haven't tried this grip, the Turn Out grip. It seems like you kind of hold the controllers upside down facing each other, the trigger rests between your middle and ring fingers?

Got Jet Island and played an hour odd at the weekend. Movements really fun: rocket skiing with spiderman grapple/swinging, a bit like motion-controlling the prawn in subnautica. Takes a bit of getting used to, I needed to be careful where I aimed to avoid accidentally tethering to a stop and there's got to be a better way to climb mountains than how I've been doing it.
Worth a try I reckon.

Put just over an hour and a half into it and it's a real nice kick back and glide around game. Graphically it's not the most appealing game - part of me thinks that they should've gone a lot more minimalistic with the texture work as a lot of them seem oversized and low quality, but there's no denying that the weird abstract landscape of plains, flying island, massive ramps and huge bowl-like islands can be a joy to look at sometimes. The sense of speed is incredible and soaring around with your jet thrusters feels very satisfying. The grappling hook takes a while to get used to but I very much appreciate the fact you can yank down to slingshot yourself forwards and you can pull some excellent recoveries and manuvers off with a little practise.

I was surprised to see that there was a reason for exploring the island. You can pick up fuel and thruster power upgrades by shooting down big flying drones and there's weird radio tower structures that have bosses that you need to beat, but really most of my time is just spent ramping around. It reminds me a lot of skating in Tribes 2 only the scale that VR gives really makes it feel special. For £15 I'd say it's probably a little too steep for most unless you really like futzing around and the sensation of launching through the sky really appeals to you (It does for me), but maybe it's worth a try and a refund if it doesn't appeal. From what I can tell it was made by one dude on a very, very small budget so I'm happy to punt some money their way. It's really a game that benefits a lot from listening to your own music, too.

Not gonna lie, I dusted off this little number:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLbE05B5W6A

And that hour and a half melted away.

I'll probably make a video about it soon showing off some of the gameplay. There was a "game" (More like a proof of concept, really) called Throttle Powah that was very much in the same vein only with wheels instead of a hoverboard and no ability to thrust/grapple around, but it did have a "Press this button to untether the camera" sort of button that meant if you were moving at an angle, your view would reflect it - VR sickness in moments, but something I'd like to have seen as a "Try this if you dare" feature in Jet Island. Doing loops and sliding along hills would be so much more intense that way.

The Pimax are not out yet but should be shipping in the next 30 days... and that's just to fulfill backer orders, general availability is probably further off.

The clarity is, by all accounts, leagues better than anythig else you can buy today, like Rift, Vive Pro, etc. Both in that it has a much wider viewing angle, and even with the image stretched out wider, it has much better resolution, and much better subpixel resolution (i.e. the Rift/Vive have pentile OLED, while the Pimax 5K+ is RGB stripe). As far as "deluxe", people are saying they are comfy and lighter than other headsets, although they don't have the strongest build quality in the world (plastic is a little thin to get them that lightweight, so try not to headbutt the wall).

The Pimax as of now will need Vive base stations (lighthouse) to track the headset, and can use Vive wand controllers. It is literally cheaper to buy a new complete Vive kit than it is to buy two Vive wands and 2 Base Stations on their own, because HTC. Pimax is making their own base stations and "Knuckles"-like controller, but these at least several months further down the road (kind of like how Oculus Rift got Touch controllers 8 months after the headset launched).

Cojawfee posted:

That looks amazing, more like a projector shot against a wall than a VR screen. Is that the 8K or the 5K+? By all accounts the 5K+ looks strictly better. Some people are theorizing that the 8K is some kind of pentile instead of stripe, so the subpixel counts are actually similar.

Yeah but that 8ks totally terrible vs the 5k and those pics were taken on a samsung s9 yeah I know they look great but the 5ks what you really want to go for as it has more effective subpixels going into a given image for no good reason except it also has worse colour range and blacks but at least its not blurry apparently there'll be an email soon from Pimax soon telling you to chose no they've said nothing at all whatsoever themselves why do you ask of course it's all random forums people and youtubers with the info and kill me

Check out the conversation about the 5k/8k on the last page, the camera zoom and focus in these particular images probably made them look as good as they are. In fact the 8k seems to have a weird subpixel arrangement and as a result has more aliasing and grain than the 5k.

Has anyone here tried the Gear VR lens swap mod on their Vive/Vive Pro? I’m really enjoying the Vive Pro, but if I could lessen the god rays and enlarge the “sweet spot,” it would be such a better experience. From what I’ve read, that’s essentially what the Gear VR lenses would do. The videos and images I’ve seen show a dramatically better view, but of course that leaves me wondering what the catch is. It seems suspicious that putting lenses from a $100 headset into one that costs 7-8 times that makes such a big improvement. Apparently it introduces some barrel distortion (which can be fixed with a little file editing) and some people have reported they have to use the Vive headset adjustment to move the lenses further away from their eyes.

I’ve had it a week, and I’m already considering modding my headset. I feel like this is going to become a very expensive hobby for me.
