I didn't know AM radio could travel so far. When I lived in SE Minnesota I remember being ecstatic that WGN radio in Chicago could reach it. Listened to many Cubs games that way.

Also used to love driving through the Midwest on a Friday night and picking up local high school football games from halfway across a state on random stations.

I've heard/seen plenty of stories about people being able to hear Yankees games on the radio in Florida from NY

holy poo poo :stare:

Tom Hamilton is a goddamn national treasure. I can’t believe he’s been their radio guy for nearly 30 years now. Between him and Herb Score, they have a chain going back to the early 60s!!!

I used to love hearing WTAM in the oddest places. I grew up listening to Indians broadcasts on it, and almost anywhere I traveled east of the Mississippi I could pick it up on a clear night. I hit it as far south as central Florida sometimes, and even as far west as Minnesota. Pretty sweet to hear the Indians pre-game show as you’re parking at the Metrodome

Ya’ll must be really old or really young because when I was growing up it wasn’t WTAM, it was WWWE (3WE).

Yeah I guess I meant my formative teen years. When I was a kid in the late 70s/into the 80s it was WWWE or WAKR. And WUAB on the tv side!! They only switched to TAM when clear channel bought it in the late 90s.

WUAB was the poo poo. I remember watching games on channel 43 all the time. And I believe the play by play guy from WUAB is now the PBP guy for the Colorado Rockies and has been for a good 20+ years. Anyone remember his name? Jack something maybe?

I remember when I was a kid in the 80s my dad would watch sometimes the games on WUAB and listen to Herb Score on a shortwave radio headset.

Jack Corrigan! It’s touch ‘em all time, baby!! He and Jim Hegan did games for a long long time. Once Sportschannel came along and bought the exclusive contract, Corrigan left for the Rockies and Hegan teamed up with Tom Hamilton on the radio. The radio side got the best duo ever, and the tv side was stuck with Rick Manning 🤮

Question, did the NFL end the special rules for the Packers and broadcasts? I know they at one point considered Milwaukee part of the "blackout" zone when it was a home game for preventing an opposing channel broadcast, but maps I'm looking at now have gotten rid of it it seems.

It's not a mainstream thing outside of a handful of fighters but it has a dedicated fanbase. It does pretty good numbers for ESPN

This.

Plus it was very hosed up for a while. They were putting poo poo on PPV that really had no business on there. They’re working to put big fights on more accessible networks again and it’s working to an extent.
